Vo E, f pm Departmental ENGLISH DEPARTMENT The aim of this department is to encourage the student to cultivate a taste for that which is Wholesome and valuable in literature, also to teach the student to speak and Write clearly and correctly. Throughout the whole course the students are guided in their reading and the best books. both classic and modern, are made accessible through the public library. A special course in grammar is offered each semester primarily for those students who are going to enter college. Izzsfmrtors, Misses Wright, Allen, Bush. PUBLIC SPEAKING This course has only recently gained rather a prominent place in ll ll? : J i l i , , l lil: l f ll ' eil I ll? i ill Es :ll 2225 fi W, our high school. In some cases it is substituted for the last year of , . , English. Students are finding this course very helpful as it enables l Q them to speak with greater ease and with better expression of their Y thoughts. Four years ago it would have been thought impossible for I Q the students to have put on an entire program before the student body y w y and faculty. I l NOW it is a simple matter to arrange such a program. This has I been made possible largely through public speaking. 2 0 I 1z5f1'm'l0r, Miss Allen 0 2 MATHEMATICS Q A two year course in this subject is required for graduation. The 0 first year's Work is Algebra. The 'Wells and Hart text book is used. i i The second year's work is Plane Geometry. The first half of the year ii i - i is given over to the general rules of geometry and the last half to the 'j ' 'L' study and construction of propositions. A third year's work consists of 'L' advanced Algebra and Solid Geometry. It is not required but has W become a very popular year's work. um Inzszruclors, lNIr.
