S ALEM HIGH started the IQ25-1926 basketball season with two veterans left over, Hardy and Garriott. Added to the strength of these was some line material around which Coach Schanlaub built up one of the best teams we have had in years. Special credit should be given the second team and those players who came out every night and helped to make the varsity a success. The opening scene was staged in Lyon Hall in a game with Browns- town. The locals surely did their stuff and downed the opposing team 25-20. The excellent guarding of Hardy and Garriott was the main feature in the winning of the game. ' The Salemites next journeyed to Paoli and met their quintet in a slow, one-sided battle. Our boys played a superior brand of S . y basket ball and surprised our old enemy, the first time in eight years. Hi The curtain raiser gave our seconds their first public appearance in a i losing iight with the Scottsburg seconds. i .A In the Mitchell game we met the stiffest competition of the year 0 and likewise suffered our severest defeat. I Ol In the first half of the Corydon game the boys seemed to be lost 'P but when the whistle blew the second half, the boys pepped up and I 0 played rings around Corydon's net men. g r The Lyons succeeded in downing the Campbellsburg live in a hard i i light but one-sided battle. The C. H. S. boys played hard jball but E were no match for Coach Schanlaub's driving offense. ,, ig The second defeat of the season was suffered at the hands of the VVest Baden five in a low ceiling room. Ribelin starred in this game, W caging seven held goals. um Salem Hi helped in the Dedicatory services of the new gym at ml' Orleans by engaging their five in a game. Both teams played a real brand of basket ball amid a thundering applause. H 4 3 Q Qs ages QL Fifty-four

The iinal score was 24-20 in B. H. S.'s favor. Salem's iirst and only game in the Sectional held at New Albany, lV1arch 5-6, was with the N. A. Bulldogs. The Lyons played a fine brand of ball in the first half but seemed out of form in the second losing 31-19. 3 Although Salem failed to win the sectional tourney, they were somewhat reconciled by the fact that Ray Garriott, our stellar back- guard, captured the berth, back guard, on the all-sectional iirst team. Buster was without question the best backguard at the tourney.
