TRACK As our yearbook goes to press, it is difficult to predict the outcome of our track season. Many of the veterans of last year have not shown any interest in joining the team again It is always a challenge to the coach to begin with new material but with practice and the backing of the school the team will be looking forward to a good season HOCKEY This year the girls hockey team took fourth place in Tri County However the girls are proud to say that they held Penns Grove the Champs to a scoreless game The players were most grateful for the help of their new coach Miss Lewis Barbara lohnson and Claudie Bradway represented Salem in the All Star game played at Woodstown November l8 Penns Grove won 10 The Senior members this year were Aud rey Smith our fast fullback with two years of varsity experience Barbara Iohnson left halfback a hard fighter also with two years of varsity experience: Lyn Bacon, a member of cur Championship team in 1950, who played center halfback and did a fine iob on defense: Ioan Waters, left wing, two years on varsity, the team's clowng and Claudie Bradway, another veteran of the Champs, who played left inner, with three years of varsity experience. Though the members of the hockey team experienced a far from perfect season, they all feel that many values not entered on the scoreboard were derived from Tri- County games. GIRLS BASKETBALL Although the girls ended their season in bottom place they were on top in a way they had a wonderful coach Mrs I Schantz who was assisted by Miss Lewis No team could ever ask for better trainers Also the girls made new friends at other schools and gained skills for the future Maybe next year will produce our charn pionship team Girls ending their fourth year of exper ience were Liz Willis Vivian Butler and Claudie Bradway The varsity letter winners were Claudie Bradway Leah Bee Shirley Blair Barbara Walker lean Mullen Doris Loper Ginny Cowan Helen Shorts Betty Brown and ohirley Touchstone Peggy Kavanaugh and Connie ui ivan were managers sq ezdx Y-3 h Z' IS I I ,, on . 1 I - Q 11- , , so 1 . ig: .K .
