6 aaa Adfory Four short years ago ln 1947 about one hundred srxty frrghtened bewrldered fresh men entered Salem I-hgh School On that f1rst day of school Mrs Kms was appornted our advrser We also elected our class offrcers Douglas Stuart Pres1dent Roeland De Wxlde Vrce prestdent and Alma Land Secretary treasurer The frrst year n hrgh school passed rather rap1dly before we knew 1t we were Sophomores Our frrst undertakmg was the magazme drrve xn wh1ch we made our selves qurte a b1t of cash Early 1n March of that year we ordered our class rrngs Our class OHICGIS for that year were Iack Helm Presrdent Roeland DeW1lde Vxce pres1dent Elrzabeth Mahoney Treasurer and Mary Ahce Rarne Secretary Durmg the thlrd week 1n September of our Iunlor year the news spread hke frre our class rrngs had arrrvedl For a long trme thereafter you could see the Iumors walkmg down the halls adm1r1ng each others r1ngs They were dxsplayed un blush1ngly and on all occas1ons Proud owners knocked them loudly aga1nst books seats or lockers and waved them rn the a1r Our Iunror year was our real money makmg year as we sold candy Chrrstrnas cards booster pms and pencrls We also held a cake sale Near the end of the year we held our annual Iun1orSen1or Prom We were the frrst class to hold a dance 1n the new gymnastum We tttled the prom Klng Neptunes Cave Our class offrcers for that year were lay Tuthlll Presrdent Doug las Huggard V1cepres1dent Eltzabeth Ma honey Secretary Gall Schnelder Treas urer Theres one year rn our hlgh school l1ves we vtnll never forget That IS the last We started off by help1ng the Iunrors put on the Football Frohc Then thrngs quleted down unt1l after Chrrstmas when we really started to prtch 1nto our GCllV1l1eS as Senrors The Fenwick Papers staff was chos n an grven drfferent asslgnments Prctures for the year book were taken and soon everyone real1zed we were gorng to have a very busy half year ahead of us Our class has the honor of be-mg the f1rst to present a tea to parents Gall Schnerder and Ehzabeth Mahoney poured Leo Carlos welcomed the parents Mrss Oehrle drscussed the rmportance of grades not only for entrance 1nto col lege but 1n lndustry and for 1nduct1on 1nto the Armed Servrces She explamed also the necessary number of credrts for grad uatron and the expenses of the Senlor tr1p The value of part1c1pat1on 1n the Semor class act1v1t1es was emphastzed by Mrs Kms our class advlser All teachers of senrors attended Garl Schnerder Elrzabeth Mahoney W1ll1Gm Frsher and lack Helm served on the Receptron commrttee Soon we were makmg plans for our Senlor trrp Everyone started to save mon ey and began those 1mportant socral ar rangements Our Mrss Brooks was chosen as our Semor play The cast was p1cked and rehearsals started On Aprrl 18 19 and 20 the Senlors gave what we all consrdered a very excellent Semor Play The followmg week on Apr1l 25 26 and 27 we went on our long awarted class trtp lt was made by bus tram and boat All good thmgs must come to an end Frrday n1ght a class of weary sentors re turned to Salem Our offtcers for l95l were Leonardos Carlos Iay Tuthxll Garl Schnelder and Ellzabeth Mahoney We pause here to remember those who preferred the serv1ces to cap and gown D1m1tr1os Carlos Reeves H1tchner Clarence Everrngham B n McCurdy Herbert Morgan B111 Newsome George Prtts Dallas Smlth Dornmlck Sottlle and Tommy Toulson Wrth graduatron we bade a fond fare w ll to Salem Htgh School the best Alma Mater an alumnus ever had' Leo Carlos Class Hrstorlan K I 1 1 I - u I , . . - 1 1 I - I I I - 1 . . . 1 1 I I I I , .
