Manager Jeff Traffican. The 1985 Varsity Football Cats had a very successful season. It was the first time the Cats remained undefeat- ed and untied in regular season play. Also, they won the first round of the state Play-offs for the first time. Besides the team's great success, several individuals were quite successful. Dave Meador became Salem's leading rusher and single season rusher leader. Mark Byars also had a good rushing season. Mike Berger and Andy Garden completed excellent defensive seasons. All the players deserve praise for a good year. Salem's only loss was in the second round of Play-offs to Roxana 28-24. Coach Budde credited the success to great talent and desire for success. Under the direction of Coach Bill Beavers, the Cats outscored their opponents 80 to 23. The Freshman team split the season with a 3-3 record.
