fu Levine Mem cry The 1983-98d SALLMATiCN Staff proudly dedicates this volume of the SALLMACMCN to the memory of Terry and Teeny McClain. Tftc bu Salem Community High School and the community of Salem were saddened by the deaths of Dr. Kerry McClain and his wife Peggy on March 27, 1984. The couple died instantly in a car-train collision in Odin, Illinois on that evening. Dr. McClain had been the principal of SCHS for 17 years. Mr. and Mrs. McClain were both active in church and community affairs. It will take several people to fill their many positions. They will be sadly missed by relatives and their many friends. Education does not mean teaching people what they do not know. It means teaching them to behave as they do not behave. It is not teaching the youth the shapes of letters and the tricks of numbers, and then leaving them to turn their arithmetic to roquery. and their literature to lust. It means, on the contrary, training them into the perfect exercise and kingly continence of their bodies and souls. It is a painful, continual and difficult work to be done by kindness, by watching, by warning, by percept, and by praise, but above all — by example.” John Ruskin We are thankful that Kerry and Peggy were our examples.
