SALEMARION 1982 - Vol. LIII SCHS History Published for the Students at Salem, Illinois 62881 Let me die. working. Still tackling plans unfinished, tasks undone! Clean to its end. swift may my race by run. No laggard steps, no faltering, no shirking; Let me die. working! Let me die. thinking. Let me fare forth still with an open mind. Fresh secrets to unfold, new truths to find. My soul undimmed, alert, no question blinking; Let me die. thinking! Let me die. laughing. No sighing o’er past sins; they are forgiven. Spilled on this earth are all the joys of Heaven; The wine of life, the cup of mirth quaffing. Let me die. laughing! S. ROGER HOLLENKAMP (November 13, 1962 - February 20, 1981) Roger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hollenkamp, graduated at midterm in 1981. He was tragically killed in an accident a month after his graduation. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. THERE IS NO DEATH In one sense there is no death. The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond his departure. You will always feel that life touching yours, that voice speaking to you, that spirit looking out of other eyes, talking to you in the familiar things he touched, worked with, loved as familiar friends. We encourage you to patronize these cooperative businesses. The 1981-82 Staff Advertisements 219 A Final Smile Our memories of Salem High will stay with us for a long time to come. With this year’s SALEMARION we have tried to capture the people of SCHS just the way they are. I would like to thank Miss Frankland for her kindness, patience, and cooking; Mr. Bill Hines for his humor; Mr. Bob Butler for his shirts; and last but not least, the SALEMARION Staff for their time. It has once been stated that when something has left you and when you remember that thing you smile, then you know that it was just as it should have been. When I see this last picture of Rae and think of Salem High, I smile. William Wayne Shoemaker Editor 1982 - Vol. 53 220 Closing mWALS WORTH PUBLISHING COM PA NY i
