On a national level, 1970 was a year of struggle and protest. Women actively demanded equal rights, and college students on campuses across the country demonstrated against U.S. intervention in Cambodia. But, at SCHS, the only demonstrations held were pep assemblies, as school spirit hit an all-time high. The Decade Review - The Decade Review - The Decade Review - The Decade Review - The Decade Review Retracing steps . . . Remembering . . . The early 1970’s were unsettled times, and at the close of the decade 43 to 50 Americans were still being held hostage at the American Embassy in Iran. But, the years in between were years of change, expansion, struggle, and triumph at SCHS and elsewhere in the world. Rock-and-Roll music was overtaken by disco, the styles ranged from mini to maxi to knee-length skirts, and from pastel colors to bright shades of red and purple in new combinations. Although some fads, clubs, and activities no longer exist at SCHS, some things such as the style of prom dresses, and the Homecoming snake dance will still be around for students to enjoy in the 1980's. They are an important part of SCHS. They are tradition.

1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-1971-19 In 1971, a Twenty-sixth amendment to the Constitution gave eighteen-year-olds the right to vote, and an ambitious student council was busy planning a mock election for the Seniors. Also this year, the Student Council sponsored a Fall Festival in place of the traditional Homecoming. Other active groups were the Dramatics Club (its last year), the Latin Club, and the enthusiastic Athletic Supporters , who made a come back in 1978.
