August 8. 1974, Richard Nixon resigned from the Presidency. As Vice-President Gerald Ford took office, he promised, Our long national nightmare is over. For the SCHS band, 1974 was a year of accomplishments. 1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-1973-19 1973 saw cease-fire agreements signed in Vietnam, but the American POW’S returned to find the biggest political scandal in history taking place, as the Watergate investigations began. On the SCHS campus a fashion revolution struck as bright plaids, turtlenecks, and lace-up boots came into style. Verlea Bercutt was crowned Homecoming Queen this year, and Michelle Flanigan reigned as Prom Queen.

1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-1975-19 Women seemed to dominate the news in 1975. In September Patty Hears!, 21-year-old newspaper heiress, was apprehended nine- teen months after being kid- napped by Symionese Liberation Army terrorists. Another young women, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, received a sentence of life imprisonment after attempting to assassinate President Ford. And the Equal Rights Ammendment failed to pass despite spirited campaign by many supporters. But women were gaining equality at SCHS. For the first time female athletes received a chance to show their ability on girls' basketball, volleyball, and softball teams. Further traditional roles were broken as students and teachers swapped positions for a day. Seen on the Scene: mood rings, T-shirts, and the layered look.
