The purpose of the Orientation Committee is to greet the freshman class when they arrive at Salem and to help them become familiar with college life. The group is composed of the orientation chairman, secretary of orientation, all dorm presidents, the hall advisors of the three large dorms. FALL T SaL em o Christmas New Years in This year the Christmas Dance theme was New year ' s in December. It was held on Satur- day December 1 , 1 JX4 atTanglewood Country Club. The dinner-dance was black tie and ihe music was provided by Alan Garrett ' s swing band. December 40 T Opening Convocation The Two-Hundredth Thirteenth Session of Salem College began at eight o ' clock, Wednesday, August 23, 13X4 at Opening Convocation. Faculty and students, old and new, gathered to watch as the Class of 13X5 processed in cap and gown. m ' ' % T. H.M.S. Pinafore )) During the fail, the Pierettes put on {heir production of H.M.S. Pinafore . The musical took a great deal of time, work ana talent. The result was a success. They performed during Parent ' s Weekend. e Confused Youth Taking a break from their world tour, the band Confused Youth performed for students in me Student Center. Due to popular demand they returned numerous times throughout the year. According to their manager, Debbie Cates, they will appearing on the upcoming cover of Rolling Stone. Bonnie Cillon served as president. April Arts Kelly Barnes, Alyson Gore, Allison Webber. April Arts organizes a special week during April that is devoted to the arts. The program coordinates music, crafts, and dance activities and sponsors a Festival in the square at the end of the week. Also, throughout the year, the club initiates participation in the cultural activities of Winston- Salem and the surrounding areas. Allison Webber served as Chairman. The Ambassadors is a student organization which works with {he Alumnae and Development Offices. The members represent Salem College at Alumnae gatherings on and off campus throughout the year.
