She attended Salem College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1917 and was appointed assistant professor of Home Economics at Salem after her graduation. In 1932 Mrs. Meinung earned the degree Master of Arts at Columbia University. She became head of the Home Economics Department at Salem in September, 1936. Mrs. Meinung died unexpectedly on August 29, 1945, in Poughkeepsie, New York. Because of her sincere interest and her professional attainments, Mrs. Meinung was well-known in the field of home economics. She was a member of the North Carolina State Dietetic Association, of which she was at one time president, the North Carolina Home Economics Association, the Ameri- can Dietetic Association, and the American Home Economics Association. It was through Mrs. Meinung ' s efforts that the Salem College Home Eco- nomics department gained national recognition. I C A T I O N j. «| ! h i rw THE BOARD T F :,HT REVEREND J. LEINBACH Of l fNNETH MOUMTCASTl f MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings: VVhcit is fhe real value of a college annual? This inquiry is made sincerely and can be made briefly. A college annual as no other book summarizes visibly the year of its publication in terms of student life. This present Salem College annual takes bravely and with vision as its theme Light, and certainly this is a radiant and inspiring theme which will be treasured through all the years to come when- ever SIGHTS AND INSIGHTS 1946 is remembered. Light should be an in reality is the goal of all education just as Light is the sum and substance of all inner life which is clear and pervasive. It will be perpetually refreshing to memorialize this year and this book as has been well expressed by Disraeli who said, A college shall be a place of Light, of Liberty, and of Learning. HOWARD E. Still running daily the inquiries for this feature bid fair to show a more spectac- ular Increase this year. Surely an editorial feature with such amazing pulling power Is sound evidence for advertisers that consistency pays off!
