Salem - 28 W. Va. State - 0 The Tigers clinch ed the eastern division crown and a bid to the W. Va. Bowl early by beating the Yellow Jackets in the annual game at Institute. State, which finished with a 0-7 record, and failed to score from scrimmage all year, was never in the contest as Salem rang up a 21-0 halftime lead and coasted home with all 32 players seeing action. Salem's TDs were scored by Ron Gaudi on a four-yard run, Don Gilpin on a seven-yard dash, Joe Cowley on a nine-yard pass from Billy Connors, and Steve Rymasz onatwo-yard sprint. Tom Cuppett went 4-4 on PAT kicks. Other outstanding plays were a 50-yard run by Gilpin and a 30-yard Connors- to-Cowley pass. Statistically, S. C. outgained State 300 yards to 113, and hit 10-21 on passes, good for 176 yards. They punted five times for a 35 yard average per kick. Salem - 12 Concord - 13 The West Union athletic field was the scene of the first loss of the year as the visiting Moun- tain Lions cashed in one extra point on their way to victory. Despite the defeat, the Tigers held command throughout the game. The first half was s c o r el es s , but only fumbles and penalities stemmedthree Salem threats. In the second half Concord drew first blood as Wayne Hicks streaked 62 yards to score. Salem retaliated on a one- yard sneak by Billy Connors, then went ahead with 10 minutes left as Mr. Commors again moved the final yard. Both PAT kicks failed and when Concord's Hicks went two yards for the maroon and white's second score, Phil Hartman's kick doomed the Tigers who led in first downs 16-5, connected on seven of 11 passes for 132 yards but lost three vital fumbles.

Salem - 14 Fairmont - 7 In the soup went a seven-year j inx along with Deacon Duvall's Falcons in a rain-dampened affair played at East-West Stadium in Fairmont. In beating Fairmont, the first time since 1954, the Tigers dominated a game featuring punts and defense. Salem struck first with only six minutes gone on an 18-yard TD pitch from Billy Connors to Jerry Townsend. Tom Cuppett scored on the first of his two perfect place- ments. Early in the third quarter the green andwhite drove 86 yards to their final score which came on a one- yard dive over center by Ron Gaudi. Cuppett's kick made the score 14-O. Fairmont finally scored with only two minutes left on a six-yard Acord-to- Quattro pass. Salem used up the re- mainder of the time. Salem - 25 Pot.
