Miss Alta Van Horn well known by the average student is a woman of great importance to the ad- ministrative branch of Salem College where her official duties are varied and influential. Miss Van Horn first came to Salem College as Director of Teacher Education in 1930. Since that time she has served as Professor of Elementary Education and then as Registrar. Her present capacity is that of Academic Consultant for the Self Study of Salem College in preparationfor admittance to the North Central Association. She assists foreign students with admission, and conducts a study of transfer students, and dropout problems. Her off-campus activities include serving as sec- retary to the Missions Committee of the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Chairman of the Association Committee for Christian Education in Pennsyl- vania, West Virginia, and Washington, D. C., and as Chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Business and Professional Woman's Club. She is also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma in West Virginia.
