Reserve Basketball Pictured above are the members of the Salem Center reserve squad for the year 1956-1957. In the FRONT ROW, left to right is John Emerson, freshman, guard, Jim Johnson, sophomore, guard, Jerry Perkins, junior, guard, Larry Prentice, freshman, forward, and Robert Phillips, sophomore, guard. In the BACK ROW is Coach Fred Smith, Keith Young, freshman, guard, Wayne Shull, sophomore, forward, Chester Boots, junior, center, Gene Cramer, junior, forward, and Jim Becker, sophomore, forward. Sa1em's reserve players had a good fighting spirit throughout the season. They showed steady improvement and several of the boys saw some varsity action at various times during the season. Varsity Basketball Pictured above is the varsity basketball team for Salem for 1956-1957. Left to right, Tom Kurtz, senior, guard, Jerry Perkins, junior, forward, Lynn Tracey, junior, guard, Donald Nichols, sophomore, forward, Dale Rowlison, junior, center, Terry Parker, junior, forward, Tom Mercer, junior, guard, KeithYoung, freshman, center, Jim Johnson, sophomore, forward, and John Emerson, freshman, guard. The Salem Cardinals had a rough year because of very little height on the squad, but in spite of this fact, the team played hard and had excellent spirit. The Cardinals' first ten contained many young and inexperienced players. Their experience this year should prove very valuable for next year. Mr. Fred Smith, as the Cardinal coach for the second year, has worked hard and steadily to help the team im- prove. In the coming years, we believe they will show much success and exclusive victories. Shown at the left is a center jump ball, with Terry Parker jumping center for Salem. r K Booster Club The Booster Club began with seventy-two members this year. The club's main purpose is to help the cheer- leaders produce a good cheering section for the basketball games. In the spring, the club sponsored the Athletic Banquet, The officers for the year of 1956-1957 were as follows: Beth Emerson, president, Rosemary Nichols, vice-presidentg Charlotte Mercer, secretary and treasurer, and the advisor was Miss Dorothy Powell.
