Future Farmers of America The FFA had various money making projects throughout the school year. In the fall they sold Farm Quarterly magazinesg and in the spring they sold screw drivers to add to their treasury, A pest contest was held and the losing side treated the winning side to a party. FFA basket- ball games were always looked forward to with anticipation. In the spring the FFA boys sold garden seeds and sponsored a skating party. Mr. Young selected a group to attend the annual FFA convention at Purdue. A district banquet was held for the boys in the spring, also. This year's officers were: Jerry Perkins, president, Lynn Stockwell, vice-president, Walter Elkins, treasurer, and Lee Stackhouse, sentinel. Librarians Pictured at the right is the library staff for this school year. SEATED in the row next to the camera are N. Dole, D. Sun- day, B. Dole, S. Everett, and L. Alleshouse. In the SECOND ROW is E. Elkins, H. Johnson, B. Emerson, E. Denison, C. Mercer and D. Barnes. Mrs. Graham QSTANDINGQ is the fa- culty advisor for this group. The library staff did a commendable job of keeping the books and magazines in order. Also, they checked out books and were responsible for checking out the periodicals and re- ference books. On his staff was Barbara Rowe and Elizabeth Tubbs, circulation, and Lorene Kocher and Ruth Klink as exchange correspondents. Cardinal Staff The Cardinal staff this year was made up of members from the senior, junior and sophomore classes. Heading the school newspaper was Bonnie Hanna as editor in chief, and Charlotte Mercer as the managing editor. The staff inaugurated such features as a 'Did You Know? column and Across the Counter' from Mr. Fee's of- fice, Also, featured was a continued article by Miss Litwiler of her European vacation. For the last few publications, senior staff members were assisted by underclassmen. The last issue was then pub- lished by a complete underclassmen staff. Shown here is the production and art staff. Glendora Lacey and Anah Milleman, Pictured above from left to right are our cooks, worked hard throughout the year to serve us well balanced, attractive meals. This was Mrs. our bus drivers, Herman Strawser, Qsubstituting for Wade Strawserj Wayne Strawser, Dan Wisel, Jack I.acey's eighth year and Mrs. Mille- Boyer, Darrell Hughes, Heber Leas, man's seventh year at Salem. This past year Mrs. McKinley came to Salem Center School every Tues- day afternoon to teach grades three through six about the Bible. She has done this Bibical teaching for many years. and Nihl Noll. Our Helpers June O'Brien, our county nurse visit- ed Salem many times throughout the school year. She administered patch tests for tuberculosis and tested the vision of the students. Mr. Askey, our janitor spent many long hours each day keeping our school neat, clean, and a more con fortable place. Sam has been he: for six years as our janitor. Mr. Howard McDanie1s, our county speech correctionist and hearing therapist, came to Salem Center School Monday and Thursday to hel those students with speech and hear. ing difficulties. 2 s s E E .
