PURITY SUPER MARKET--La Grange LIECHTY JEWH-RY,,Ang01a ANONYMOUS GIFT 2 Z 1 1 6 X C ass Histor xf' I X In the fall of 1944, 14 brave little boys and girls entered the first grade to start their 12 long years of schooling under the skillful guid- ance of Mrs. Lepley. David Boyer, Dale Denison, Walter Elkins, Beth X Emerson, Bonnie Hanna, Dan Hughes, Ruth Klink, Rosemary Nichols, Barbara Rowe, and Elisabeth Tubbs were the members of the graduating class who started their education at Salem. Thomas Kurtz came from Hudson in 1953 to begin his eighth grade of school at Salem. Iona Emerick, Jerry Gaskill, Billy Hose, Lorene Kocher, Philip Long, Char- lotte Mercer, Gary Noll, and Richard Shearer entered Salem from Stroh School to begin their freshman year of high school. We started our freshman year of school in the fall of 1954 with 27 class members. We elected Miss Litwiller as our class sponsor. At the beginning of the year we were initiated by the sophomore class. We recall having to wear old, patched, clothes backwards and speaking pieces to the sophomores while on our knees. In the class tourney we were known as the Freshmen Wheels. We enjoyed a hayride and a Christmas party during our freshman school year. In our sophomore year we chose Mr. Halsey as our class sponsor. We greatly enjoyed initiating the freshmen. In the class tourney we were known as the Green Homets. We were very proud of our green and white class sweaters which we received in November. We held our Christmas party at Donna Boyer's home and a sledding party at Mr. Hal- sey's home. Mr. Bright was our class sponsor during our junior year of school. At the beginning of the year we sold magazines. We sold 51380.50 worth of magazines which was more than our quota. We will always re member our stuffed dog, Hambone, which the high salesman ofthe day was honored to carry around. We were bursting with pride wher. our shiny new class rings arrived. Mr. Bright directed our junior play, Comin' Round the Mountain. Junior Rockets was our nickname for the class tourney. The girls were very proud of the basketball pennant which they won. We enjoyed a Christmas party and a picnic at Poka- gon State Park during our junior school year. Mr. Bright was our class sponsor during our senior year. Selling an- nual ads kept us busy the first part of the year. We staged our play, Good Gracious Grandma on October 19. The cast celebrated after- wands at the Gaybam in Angola. We had a scrap drive October 6. We enjoyed our Christmas party which was held at the school house. As this annual goes to press we seniors are looking forward to Bac- calaureate, Commencement, and our senior trip to Washington, D.C. and New York.
