Before Capfain Ensey made his home under my overheads, he was a fhorough-going desfroy- erman. l-le commanded fhe UPSHUR lDD-22ll, CORRY lDD-463l, BLUE lDD-74-4l, and Desfroyer Division Il2. l-le also served as Fleef Operafions Officer for CINCLANT, and as CO of fhe cargo ship ACl-IERNAR lAKA-53l. A graduafe of fhe Armed Forces Sfaff Col- lege, Norfolk, Capfain Ensey helped plan and conducf fhe firsf fwo command and sfaff courses offered af fhe Naval War College, Newporf, R. l. l-le wears fhe Bronze Sfar medal and fhe Sec- refary of Navy Commendafion, bofh wifh com- baf V. Alfhough born in fhe Panama Canal Zone, Capfain Ensey regards Sfarlce, Florida, as his homefown. l-le affended Marion lnsfifufe, Ma- rion, Alabama, and was graduafed from fhe US Naval Academy in I93O. l-le is married fo fhe former Miss Kafhryn Zeiss of San Diego. For his meriTorious achievemenT as Commanding Officer of The USS KALININ BAY from June I4 To AugusT I, I944 he was awarded The Bronze Sfar wiTh CombaT V. From OcTober, I944 To July, I945 he was Chief of STaff To Commander Carrier Division One and parTicipaTed in The sea-air baffle for LeyTe Gulf in OcTober, I944: in The desTrucTion of an enemy convoy aT Ormoc Bay, LeyTe: in a series of daring raids on Manila and in The China Sea: and in subsequenT aTTaclcs on Tokyo ifself. For ex- cepTionally meriTorious conducT he was awarded The Legion of MeriT wiTh CombaT 'vi' I On AugusT I, I945 he assumed command of The famous gianT carrier USS I-IORNET ICV-IZI which, following The Japanese capiTulaTion lafer ThaT monTh, was used as a Troop ship in The Magic CarpeT operaTion of TransporTing veTerans of The Pacific To The WesT CoasT. On March IO, I946 he reporTed To Maxwell Field, Monfgome-ry, Alabama, where he had duTy unTil July, I947 as I-lead of Naval Division of The Air Univer- siTy. On July 29, I947 he was ordered To The Sfaff of The Naval War College and was laTer promoTed To Chief of STaTf of The Presidenf of The College, In February, I95O Vice Admiral Brown reporTed as DepuTy DirecTor of The JoinT American MiliTary Advisory Grou , London, England where he remained unTil April, I952, when he assumed commandgof Carrier Division Six. ln June, I953 he was or- dered To duTy in The Office of The Chief of Naval OperaTions and The nexT monTh was designaTed Depufy DirecTor of The JoinT STraTegic Plans Group in The- JoinT Sfaff Office. l le reporTed on AugusT 9, I954 as Navy Member of The JoinT STraTegic Sur- vey CommiTTee. On January 24, l956 he became DepuTv Commander in Chief, ATlanTic FleeT and Chief of Sfaff and Aide To The Commander in Chief, U.S. ATlanTic FIeeT. I-le assumed dufies as Commander SixTh FleeT and as NATO Commander Naval STrilcing and Supporf Forces, SouThern Europe on AugusT 4, l956. , In addifion To The- Legion of MeriT, The Bronze STar, each wiTh CombaT V , and The Presidenfial UniT CiTaTion, Vice Admiral Brown has The World War I VicTory Medal, FleeT Clasp: The AsiaTic-Pacific Campaign Medal wiTh seven bronze sTars: The American Campaign Medal: World War ll VicTory Medal: The NaTional Defense Service Medal: and The Philippine LiberaTion Ribbon wiTh Two bronze sTars. Vice Admiral Brown is married To The former Eleanor T. Green of Annapolis, Mary- land, and The- Browns have Two sons, Nicholas I-larwood and Ensign Randall Robison IUSNA, Class of l957l.
