My presenf Execufive Officer is Commander Roberf L. Baughan, Jr. Since graduafing from rhe Naval Academy in I94I Commander Baug- han has served aboard six ships. I-Ie was firsf as- signed fo fhe Gunnery Deparfmenf of fhe old air- craff carrier LEXINGTON and was a survivor of fhaf vessel when if sank as a resulf of Japanese air affaclcs during fhe Baffle of fhe Coral Sea in I9-42. In Sepfember I942 he wenf aboard fhe desfroyer CI-IAMPLIN as Execufive Officer. The ship fools parf in fhe invasion of Sicily as well as fhe invasion of Soufhern France and was credifed Wifh sinlcing a German submarine off New Yorlc in I944. From fhe CI-IAMPLIN Lf. Baughan wenf fo fhe WYOMING as Assisfanf Gunnery Officer, where he remained unfil fhe summer of I946. Subseguenfly he complefed a posf graduafe course in Ordnance Engineering IFire Confroll wifh one year af Annapolis and fwo years af MIT. My Execufive Officer's firsf command was fhe desfroyer PORTEREIELD which he recommis- sioned in April, I95I affer a year and a half aboard fhe desfroyer SI-IELTON as Execufive Officer. The PORTEREIELD, as weII as fhe SI-IEL- TON, operafed wifh various faslc forces of fhe Sevenfh Fleef during fhe Korean War. In I952 Commander Baughan was assigned for fwo years dufy as Ordnance Mainfenance Offi- cer on fhe Sfaff of ComCruDesPac. I-Iis Iasf dufy sfafion before reporfing aboard me was in fhe Bureau of Ordnance where he headed up -fhe Surface and AA Secfion and Iafer fhe Eire Con- frol Branch of fhe Maferial Division. Besides various campaign and area ribbons, Commander Baughan has been awarded fhe Bronze Sfar Medal wifh combaf 'V' and fhree gold sfars in lieu of successive awards. Commander Baughan was born in I-Iunfingfon, Wesf Virginia on 6 Sepfember I9 I9 and married Eleanor Younf of Norrisfown, Pennsylvania in June, I942. Caspari, USN, was born in Emporia, Kansas, Ocfober 9, IQI6. l-le aTTended Kansas STaTe Teachers College for Two years, before en'- Tering The Naval Academy. l-le graduafed from The Naval Academy in I94O, and has served aboard seven ships. l-lis firsT command was The desfroyer USS BABBIT, which he Took over in l943 affer Two years aboard The baffleship USS PENNSYL- VANlA and a year on The desfroyer USS LAUB. d N I W 1g where he advanced from assisfanf Gunnery Of- June IQ56 ficer To Execufive Officer. As skipper of The l3ABBlT, l.ieuTenanT Caspari was The mosT iunior desfroyer capfain in The Navy: The average of The officers in his wardroom was 2 I .3 years. From The BABBlT, LieuTenanT Commander Caspari vvenT To The Pacific To Take command of The desfroyer USS EDISON, remaining wiTh her unfil I9-46. ln I9-48 he wenf To Sfanford UniversiTy for a posT graduafe course in personnel adminisfrafion, and a MasTer's Degree.
