A SALEM ACADEMY BAND The Music Department of Salem Academy, under the direction of Professor Eby, has achieved some outstanding things this year. The band has grown from a small group of seventeen players last year to a very creditable group of Fifty-four. Through the efforts of the Music Promoters' Club, a good sum of money has been raised looking to- ward the purchase of uniforms for the band. Ad- ditions to improve the instrumentation have been planned. The band played at several of the home football games, and a pep band played at a num- ber of the home basketball games. The entire band appeared in two public concerts, one spon- sored by the Music Promoters' Club and another by the Parent Teachers' Fellowship, in which the Varsity Choir also appeared. One highlight of the year for the Band and Choir was the trip to Spokane to participate in the Music Festival of the Northwest Fellowship of Christian Schools. The choir and small ensembles proved themselves very useful to the school by their numerous appearances in the churches, and by their singing for banquets and clubs throughout the valley. The choir also sang at the Holy Week noon hour services spon- sored jointly by the Salem Ministerial Association and the Y. M. C. A. They made a week end trip to Redmond and Bend and fumished the special music for the Union Easter Sunrise services held at McCullough Stadium.
