With Mr. Turnidge still leading the school, 1954 proved to be a very prosperous year. Mr. Schroeder became the Principal and the school had 15 faculty members. This year, 1955, was a star year indeed. A new shop was added to the building and the inside of the gymnasium was Hnished. The mortgage was paid off and the school received its accreditation. Rev. Turn- idge is the President and 1V1r. Schroeder our Principal. The school has grown spiritually as well as educa- tionally through their leadership. The present enrollment is 220. May the school progress as much in the future as it has in the past. 39

Rev. john Ediger was the Principal ol an enrollment ol 100 students and 8 in the College. Down through the years the school has always opened its doors to the worshipping ol Cod. under the fine leadership of its various Presidents and Principals. Leslie F, Smith, Principal 1946-47. was instrumental in changing the name to Salem College and Acade- my. There were 117 students with 10 in the College that year. ln the fall ol 1948, Dr. Robert Hovland came to the Academy from lVlinneapolis. Minnesota. The Prin- cipal was Mr. Charlton Smitherman. Dr. Hovland and Mr. Smitherman guided the school until the lall of 1950. Rev. Henry Turnidge took over the joh with Rev. A. A. l.ot-wen as the Principal. The enroll- ment lor this year was 175. 38
