CLASS PROPHECY This evening after coming home froni a tiresome day at the office, I sit down to relax and read my local newspaper, The Warren Tribunef' As I glance over the paper, numerous articles recall to my memory the Class of '47, Today is our tenth anniversary. Headlines of the day read 'ARocket Ship Reaches Marsf' As I glance through the article, I find that Paul Parker was the pilot of this rocket ship and the leader of the expedition. After a series of attempts he has finally succeeded. This will revolutionize the modern world. As my eyes travel over the church notes, I find that William D, I-Ieinbaugh fknown as Bill in my days, is following in his father's footsteps. He is now minis- ter of the First Baptist Church. In another column, I see Rebecca lvlusser has achieved recognition in the field of science. She has done some outstanding research work concerning the atomic bomb. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree at William and Mary's College in Virginia, she went to work under the famed scientist William Howard Bonewitz. He is also a member of our class and received his start under the direction of Mr, Eugene Kitt in chemistry class. You will remember him as the boy who was constantly mixing explosive concoctions more powerful than T, N, T, I-Ie is now owner of the largest scientific research laboratory in the United States. The convention of surgeons was held this year in Warren since Dr. Robert Pond is the president. Another article informs me that Mrs. Thomas Sprowl tfor' merly Wilberta Billie Marshl is still active in her Sunshine work. She is now head of all Sunshine Societies in Indiana. A great addition to Warren is the Dailey Hospital, erected and financed by the multi'millionaire playboy, jim Dailey. lxflax Andrew, the chief doctor, has under his supervision three nurses who are members of our class. They are: Betty Michael, supervisor of nurses, Norine Herring, head of children's ward, and Ann Brauchla, surgical nurse, formerly Ann Ruble. She is now the wife of Harold lvl. Brauchla, owner of the Brauchla Dairy Farms. Ann is the mother of two children but continues her career of nursing. Brock is a hard working man of twenty- seven and never tires of the farm. He is still interested in basketball and comes to the Warren gym for a game every Thursday night. Miss Nancy Border just arrived from New York by plane yesterday. She is visiting her parents at their home at 1020 North lvlatilda Street. Her parents are announcing her marriage to Charles Frederick Saks, jr., heir to the Saks millions. Nancy is visiting her home town before leaving for Europe on her honeymoon. Now as I turn the page I read the editorial. It is about the Class of l94'Q', Who could be writing about us? I find the answer to my questionn The editor is Gordon Laymon. The editorial staff includes Russell Searles as sports manager and Richard Smith as manager of photography. They received their stait in this field from HThe Atornn, our school annual. The Womanis Page contains three outstanding articles because the authors are three of my girlfriends, Joann Murray, Phylis Sheets, and joan Gibson. joan Gibson is drawing house plans with complete instructions for furniture and other decorative arrangernents. Joann Murray is writing the Sub-Deb Cornei and today s is 'iStudy While in School, I can't understand this because as I remember she never studied. Her latest best seller is MTips for Teensfi Next is l-hylis Sheets Advice to the Lovelornf' She is still helping people iron ouL their problems as she did in her school dgg. Class Prophecy fCont.J On the opposite page are pictures of the jones? Broadway Production Girls, It is still appearing in Warren after a three years? run. The producer is Dean jones of our class. There is also an auction sale bill on this page and I see Ridhard Stroup has finally tired of farming and is moving to Bluffton. The next section is sports. I see Richard Douglas of the Chicago Cubs hit a home run in the game with the New York Yankees. jerry Ruef is the Yankeei coach. In another article, I see that Roger Douglas is still coaching at Purdue. This will make his fifth year there. If you need any kind of trucking service be sure to see Roger Ruble. He has an advertisment for any kind of service from moving to hauling grain. The office of Ruble's Trucking Service is located on the corner of First and Main Street in downtown Warren. So you can't bake 'well just visit the Ton Bon Bakery owned and operated by Vivian Richardson. She has Beautiful cakes and cookies and such tasties. If you Want Leghorns on foot or dressed, see Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shafer. As you remember Mrs, Shafer was formerly Esther Campbell. She was married in the middle of the senior year. Since Warren is now one of twenty largest cities in the United States, you can give most of the credit to the Class of 1947. Most of the members of the class came back to Warren and started up a business. OUR POEM This senior group is quite a class, Every lad and every lass. Although this class is quite loud, Of it the school should be proud. Now I am going, if you can remember, To tell a little about each member, Of the girls and their curls, Of the boys and their noise. First of all we have them tall, Skinny, fat and all of that, Beautiful and sour and some like a tower, Brawn and brian and some do shine Cdimlyl. Our tallest senior, Ester Campbell, Her life to us is quite a scramble. Rober Douglas is never quiet, To hear him talk you would think it's a riot. jerry Ruef and his fox's tooth, To look at him, you'd think he's a goof. Harold Brauchla, so bold and brave, Of his basketball record we can rave. Rebecca Musser is quite a gal, If you're a boy you are her pal. S Dean jones, the girls find it hard to see, just what kind of a husband he would be. Nancy Border, Oh! what's cookin', For which man could she be lookin'. Joann Murray is being courted by Daisy, We mean a man and not a posy. Roger Ruble has a new car, Now all the girls' hearts will be a-jar. Phylis june Sheets is bashful and shy, But sheis got a boy friend on a farm near by. Russell Searles is quite a guy,' Of the girls he is rather shy. Dick Stroup at night goes to Bluffton to see a lass And the next day sleeps in government class. Betty jane Michael, so tall and trim, We'd like her secret in keeping slim. Dick Smith and his hair, To look at him you'd think he was a bear. Max Andrew for a whirl, Goes to Lancaster and gets a girl. Vivian Richardson is not a nagger, Before long she will be s sliger. Paul Parker is quite a card, For our class he sure works hard. Bill Bonewitz, we call him Herk, Sometimes he is referred to as quite a jerk. joan Gibson lives out on the hill, And goes with a guy whose name is Bill. Richard Douglas in our varsity five, I-Ie and Edna sure do jive. Ann Ruble with her charms and poise, She never causes commotion or makes any noise. jimmy Dailey we all enjoy, He plays the part of a girl as well as a boy. Bil Heinbaugh, a tall boy who ca.n t say no, With his long legs, what makes him so slow? .WW I I :'7 5':Q 7 1 'rv-'I .R ew 1 ,.-- ., 5,..1, .Y Qu inf' L if , ju, A.. Thirty seven pupils made up the class and our teacher was Miss McCord. The rest of our grade teachers were Miss Waits 12nd gradej, Miss Click f3rd gradej, Pally Wright Q-4th gradej, Mr. Hall f5th gradej, and Mr. Coolmen f6th gradel. In 1942, we entered the seventh grade with thirty-four pupils and Miss Redd' ing as our sponsor. When we were in the eight grade, the school carnival was started. We sold more tickets than any other classg therefore, our queen was crowned. She was Lu Ellyn lrick. When we entered the ninth grade our sponsor was still Miss Redding. There was another carnival held during this year and again our queen was crowned. This time it was Monna Boxell. Our class officers for the freshmen year were: Martha Shafer, president: Phyllis Ruble, vice'presidentg Monna Boxell, secretary, Donna Ditzler, treasurer. When we became sophomores, Miss Redding was still with us, and our officers were as follows: jack Good, presidentg Clyde Smyth, vice'presidentg Monna Boxell, secretaryg Marilyn Stump, treasurer. At the beginning of the year we broke a record by selling more magazines than any other class of this school has ever sold in previous years. Then later in the year we held a turkey raffle at the La Fountaine basketball game. Going into the junior year, there were thirty-three in our class. We had many things to look forward to, such as selling ice cream, candy, and other eats at ball games and at noon, giving a class play, getting our class rings, getting a new sponsor and many more things. Our new sponsor is Mr. 'Kitt and our class officers are: Glen Prible, president, jack Good, vice'president3 Monna Boxell, secretary, Marilyn Stump, treasurer. During the year we chose our class colors of kelly green and grey, and the class flower, the Talisman Rose. Our motto is To Be, Rather Than Seem To Be. It was decided there was a need for a school paper in this school, so We took over the job. This is the first time a school paper has been put out in this school for about ten years. Though the year is not yet completed, we juniors feel we have done well thus far. We are anticipating a splendid senior year with our eyes upon graduation and of course the traditional trip to the eastern states. ' . -Qu 11 YI SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY We, the Hforty-ninersu of Warren High, have found our years of junior high and high school quite interesting and most exciting. We entered junior high as supposedly industrious students. As for the seventh grade, we managed quite well. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Hall, we elected officers as follows: President, Wilbur Cole: Vice President, Roger Williams: Secretary, Carolyn Stucky and Treas- urer, I-lugh Shafer. That year we had two class parties, one being a hay ridef and what fun ll. Another project of the year was a spelling eBeei' against the eighth graders, who surprisingly defeated us. Also that was the year of our first car- nival and we elected Carolyn Stucky as our queen. Our dues for this year were fifty cents a semester.. Gee! Time sure must fly, for it wasn't long before we were back to pester the teachers for another year, only we were eighth graders now. Our officers for the year was nearly the same as last year. The President was George Sligerg Vice President, Roger Williamsg Secretary, Carolyn Stuckyg and the Treasurer, Hugh Shafer. Our new sponsor for this year was Miss Major. This year we had two semester parties, our first consisting of a skating party, and our second being a Weiner roast. Our carnival queen for this year was Wauline Shafer, and our dues were the same as last year. After and extremely short vacation, we came back to school as freshmen, not knowing, of course, what the sophomores had in store for us! But we found out soon enough - - initiation! What memories! Wearing our clothes backward and wrong side out, we paraded around school all day, bowing to the sophomores no less. We had a wonderful party afterward though, with weiners, rolls and chocolate milk on the menu. We also had two class parties this year. One was at Carolyn Stucky's house and the other one at Dorothy Wilson's house, who, by the way was our sponsor this year. In expectation of the carnival, we elected Loretta Smith as our queen but due to conditions beyond our control the carnival was called off. The officers were elected as follows: President, Hugh Shaferg Vice President, Roger Williams: Secretary, Carolyn Stuckyy and Treasurer, Patricia Dugan. After another recess of approximately four months we were again back to school trying to tell the teachers, or so we thought. Although not much of our sophomore year is over, we have had lots of fun as always. We sought revenge on an innocent party and initiated the freshmen, what fun! We also sold magazines and thanks to all of our friends and neighbors, we went over our goal of a thousand dollars and sold eleven hundred, twenty eight dollars and seventy five cents, breaking the school's record. Of course the losers entertained the winning team at a party. The winning captain was Norma Schwob, the losing, Roger Smith. The officers of last year were again elected and the dues again were fifty cents a semester. We have enjoyed our high school life very much, and hope to enjoy the rest of our years as much. , V , ,. 1 ' iff i . -, . H., 1 ,, , uf' ' 1 4 o 'U ' V I W. S. 'e , I. 1 o A ,Ni I A' A V ' uf' . CLASS OF 1950 There were tWenty'eight of us in our class when we entered junior high school in 1944, and we were all very excited because it was the first time we had ever been allowed to stay in the assembly with the big kids for a long period of time. We soon found that Miss Strait was to be our sponsor, and at our first class meeting We elected Robert Doversberger for class president, Mary Eltzroth for vice- president, and Etta jane Schemerhorn for secretary and treasurer. After a few weeks of school, we learned that 'Athe big kids teased us little seventh graders, and, trying to make an impression on them, we gained the re- putation of being the worst class in school. During 1944 and 1945, we added some new members to our class and also lost some. This left us with thirty members in our class. The class of SO began their last year of junior high with thirty-two mem- bers. A few days after school started, we elected officers: President, Barbara Tamg Vice'president, Nancy Gebhartg Secretary and Treasurer, jerry Shultz., of 1G50 qconm In November We had a class party which was a treasure hunt: a good time wa had by' all of us. Shortly afterwards, we lost our sponsor, Miss Strait, for In est of the year, because of illness, Miss Davis, a substitute teacher, filled ie place for the resl of the year. This year we rnissed nothing that happened in school, good or bad, so, a had reputation was acquired. On August 23, 1946 twenty'nine Hfreshiesu enrolled for their first year in h gh school. O-71 September thirteenth, the sophomores decided we must be initiated. After ay of initiation they gave us a party which We enjoyed. The losers in the Bio' L y I-ird hunting contest entertained the Winners with a treasure hunt and Weiner roast Now we are planning our regular class party, Officers for the year are jerry Shultz, presidentg Etta jane Schemerhorn, xice president: Robert Evans, Secretary: Barbara Tam, Treasurer.
