I I S 1 X I Y E '17 As we come to the end of our four years at Salamance High School and look back upon our accomplishments, we realize more fully and more strongly than we ever have before that without the aid of certain wonderful people, our successes would not have been possible. Heading the list of those to whom we owe much gratitude are, of course, our parents or guardians, to whom we owe our very existence, and for whose constant guidance and advice we will always be so in- dehted. Then there are the teachers, who displayed such interest in our attempts and were so willing to assist us in numerous respects. And, naturally, we cannot forget our fine schoolmates, whose friendship and support were always a source of encouragement to us. To all these people, and to everyone else who helped us in any way to attain our goals, we dedicate this page of appreciation. Qedicaticm Miss McCabe, we'd like to tell you a story, the story of a woman who has devoted much of her life to training and developing the charac- ters of her students, who has sacrificed her time and energy without hesitation, knowing that some day her efforts will bear fruit. As Seniors, we have had the opportunity to sit day after day in her classes, aware that before us stood a woman of dignity and scholarship. That woman, Miss McCabe, is you. They seem rather l Four years gone? Impossible! But, let's see: We began attending Salamanca High in 1953, and we're graduating this year, 1957, One . . . two , , , three . . . Sure enough, four yearsl They went so fast -- probably because they were so much fun, as some quick reflections of those four years will show. Freshmenl In high school at last! But why do those upperclassmen pay so little attention to us? We'll show them before long, though! And we did: Our Pumpkin Bounce was an enviable success, our class assembly was equally auspicious, and our French Beauty Parlor Stunt Nite act was a whale of a lot of fun. Time went on, as it has a habit of doing, and we found ourselves, as Sophomores, more a part of the social life. Our bank account was steadily increasing, especially after our Sadie Hawkins Dance in which Minnie Clifford surprised Bob Formica by being almost as fast as he was. With our second successful assembly, and another zany Stunt Nightskit, a tradition began taking shape. After a short summer vacation, Father Time again reminded us that more was to come. A yawning hole in our treasury chest led to: Peanut brittle! Chocolate straws! Creamy mints! Our candy sale was on! It lasted all year and really augmented our treasury, The good humor continued MR. LANKOW, Advisor through our class activities, and there were serious moment: too, especially at the Junior-Senior Banquet, Then, all tot soon, Moving Up Day was upon us. Sentimental tears trickle: down many cheeks that day as the departing Seniors left the stage and proud Juniors took their places. Before we knew it we were Seniors. Our kick-off was the Back to School Dance followed bi candy and fruit cake sales. Following tradition, we presenter our unforgettable Senior Snow Ball, and then launched into the unknown with our senior trip to New York City. The productior of our delightful senior play and the compiling of our 195' Seneca will afford many lingering memories. Now as we are approaching our destinies, we realize that even though-the door of our high school career is closing, others are opening. At graduation, that door will shut completely. but, we'll be ready. SENIOR OFFICERS LEFT TO RIGHT: K. DeBoy SECRETARY A. Fedell PRESIDENT G. Sander TREASURER K. Activity-wise, our sophs took part in clubs, music organizations, the Warrior, and sports. We presented an assembly, as usual, and sponsored a dance in the spring. We all were a little bewilderef at the rush of high school on our first day, but within two weeks we were elbowing our way dowi the halls with the best of the upper- classmen. Our class, an exceptionally large one, has, we feel added greatly to the color and humor of our beloved old school in the past year, and we hope tt keep it that way for another three years. We had our first formal meeting soon after school started and elected our class leaders a. follows: President, Glenn Boutelleg Vice-President, Lynne Fenton, Secretary, Patty Jean Young Treasurer, Leslie Mascho. Miss Carter, our adviser, and these fellow classmen have helpe make our class a proud one indeed. We held our annual dance, The Harvest Hop, in November. Karen DeBoy, a senior, ann Glenn Boutelle, our own president, were elected Queen and King to rule over the dance, We had a good time putting it together and it was a real success! At Christmas time we pitched in and helped the sophomores collect presents to give to boy: and girls at the Randolph Orphanage. We enjoyed doing our little bit to help make someone else': Christmas as happy a time as ours was. After hurdling our mid-year exams, we plunged into the production of a successful assembly All of us are glad, of course, to be movin p from the bottom step, but to be sure, we'll al remember that first year, the fun and Work e joys and sorrows, and we'll carry those thingg with us right on into our future. , m U vb! mgjftvitv ull L I 'l if P - YJ y 1 , V f , usen'wff df i W J! if H F HQ JJ -'iw TOP ROW: J. Wach- ter, Treasurer. The Student Council is the legislative branch of our school government. Its aims are to pro- vide for student self-government, to promote and aid school activities, and to promote co-operation between the faculty and students. Many students think the Student Council is just another school club, that it has no functions relating to the student body itself. Nothing could be farther from the truthl It was organized be- cause the student body felt the need of some kind of leadership, and that is its sole purpose today. Since ours is a democratic government, it is fitting and right that we should place our confidence in the Council, and pledge ourselves to uphold it in all its decisions. A Student tice STUDENT JUSTICE Who is selling tickets for tonight's game? Report to the Ethics Com- mittee! These are familiar words of the Student Police.
