THE 79 FOOTBALL SEASON High expectations preceded the 79 football campaign. After a disappointing 78 season, the Widlcats had many returning lettermen who had valuable game-time experience. An exciting win over Wellborn in the annual spring jamboree game the Wildcats a needed boost before tough summer practice began. All of these expectations were met when the young Saks squad marched into Wildcats Stadium and promptly defeated the 4A Oxford Yellow jackets 21-13 in the inaugural game of the year. Suddenly the Wildcats hit a streak of bad luck. Four tough losses followed as the Wildcats kept us with our fingers crossed until the final buzzer. After an open week, a big win over favored Wellborn surged the Wildcats onward and they traveled to Heflin. The Tigers dominated the game sending the team home with aspirations toward Homecoming against B.B. Comer. After a fun filled and exciting week, the Wildcats got down to the real business on Friday night. B.B. Comer was no match for the inspired Wildcats and many players experienced their first Homecoming win. A tough loss to state palyoff-bound Glencoe sent the Wildcats to their final game of the year. On a cold night at Saks Stadium, the fired-up Wildcats beat Alexandria in overtime to crush the Valley Cubs playoff hopes. Even though the record was a disappointing 4-6 the Wildcats gave us many exciting moments and a bright outlook for next season. Taking a breather Discussing strategy. Ty goes through with a fake.
