SAKS HIGH SCHOOL ANNISTON, ALABAMA ECHOES 1973 STUDENT LIFE As we go through the years of high school . . . We see the same faces We make new friends We create new memories We live for and enjoy today without realizing . . . But, sometime in the future, we will look through these pages and we will understand what we were and what was happening to us. 3 I am a child in these hills I am away, I am alone Alive but alone . . . belonging where?” Alone is one—never two. Alone is looking . . . and longing for love . . . and someone leaving. Alone is time and a place for you. Alone is wondering who and why and where you are. Alone is feeling lost—and finding you. s I am a child in these hills Miss Saks High 1973 Barbara Ary 10 Miss Saks Junior High Kathy Knopp n 12 A THRILLING MOMENT. . . HOMECOMING 1972 Queen—Tainara Jennings Princess—Beverly Borden 8th Grade—Tina Bushard 7th Grade—Cathy Howell McDonald’s I .and. One Ringie-Dingie . . . A thrilling moment . . . when the Juniors of 73 receive their Senior rings. 19 21 Students learning together, working together, laughing together and being something special to another can only bring out a dazzling emotion. Love reigned and as it reigned good times occured. How could anyone forget the Thursday night pep rallies? How about the presentation the Senior Play and skipping class just to sit out in the sun to watch the track meet? And let as not forget the string of lovers standing against lockers in between classes. Look back now, for love did occur and it still re- mains in our memories of 1973. n 23 Voluntaries HI—Ralph Waldo Einerson So nigh is grandeur to our dust. So near is Cod to man. Running fast. Running free . . . On track day of '73 16 Colour My World As time goes on, I realize Just what you mean To me. And now. Now that you’re near Promise your love. That I've waited to share. And dream. Of our moments together Colour my world. With hope of loving you. Poem To The Seniors On winged feet the four years pass And now we honor our Senior class. Beyond these walls, this town, this state A whole new world now lies in wait. You’ve much to learn, we’re often told Wisdom to gain before you’re old. But tonight—before you turn and go Your separate ways, as well we know. Enjoy this place, these hours, this school In memory they’ll return to you. Poem together they climb the mountain of life waterfalls of laughter fill their hearts, streams of hope flow through their souls, learning floods their minds, raindrops of tears often fill their eyes, but showers of courage fall bringing simshine after the storm, waves of time leave traces of memories on the shores of their souls, into the ocean of experience they grope for answers this is the Spirit of Youth . . . forever to shine. 3) ACADEMICS Here is where most of us make the decisions of where we want to go and what we want to do the rest of our life. Class- rooms are here for our educa- tion. Teachers are here to teach us. We are here to seek the knowledge and culture that is ours to take. Some take it, some lo not. But we will find that ve need this once in a life time opportunity to learn and grasp the total meaning of a good education. HOWARD THOMAS-PRINCIPAL W. E.CONNELL, JR. We found that we were not all alike. There were the un- concerned and the selfish as well as the caring, loving and giving ones. We found that emotions stood in our w'ays many times when commu- nicating with people which of- ten left us frustrated. As you look back, vou see that without those people life would have been meaningless. 1973 SENIORS Watch for we shall someday be men and we will call aworld ours, a world of tomorrow built on the dreams of yesterday. We the children gone by, we have laughed, dreamed, smiled, loved, then somehow lost and now we find ourselves no longer the children we once were but not yet the men we shall be. realizing that lollipops and bicycle-scraped elbows have slowly faded and merely become an integral part of the mirage we call memories, weeping for somewhere along the way we have lost yesterday and and are not quite sure where to find tomorrow. Class Motto To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Colors: Red and White Mascot: Wildcat Class Flower: Camellia Class Song Take A Look Around 106 Too many people talking in too many different ways; Looks like a politician’s got it sewn up today. But a hundred years from now where are they gonna be? So whatevers making you sad today won’t matter when you leave. Take a look around you, don’t let the world bring you down; Take a look at yourself, let a smile replace a frown. Trouble is something we’ve got too much of, try to find something new. Rivers and rainbows— Cod's creation's out there waiting for you. Get up on your feet, get them to move and take a holiday from the blue Swim in the river, fly over the rainbow, what have you got to lose? Take a look at the good, be cool. Makes you glad you’re living; Take a look at you and me, there’s a whole lot we could be giving. If it’s love that’s making you sad, then it’s not the love you need; Love is supposed to make you happy, go out and find the love you need; Get up on your feet, get them to moving—Move them on down the line. Let your love go to everybody. Don’t you think it’s about time?
