O0 Wildcat Reported Ou The staff on the Wildcat has been busy this year and has fulfilled their goal of publishing a news- paper every month this school year. Adding journalism to the curriculum has enabled the students to meet together everyday and gain knowledge in all fields of newspaper work. The staff attended a Journalism Workshop at Jefferson State Junior College on November 17, 1971 and brought back many interesting ideas. Since newspaper publishing is very expensive, the staff has presented several pro- jects in order to stay out of the red . Members of the staff have sold chances on stadium blankets, presented a Magic Show, and sponsored a movie for the student body. We commend you, the members of the 1972 Wildcat staff and your capable sponsor, Mrs. Brown. The choral room was moved into a renovated room with risers, new lighting, and many new faces. Altos had the majority as usual, but the boys came out with a fabulous sound. Programs included a performance for the Fort McClellean Officers Wives' Club, Senior Honor Society Induction, PTA, Awards Day, District and State Contests, The Annual Christmas Concert, and the Annual Spring C oncert. Students auditioned for the Alabama All-S tate Chorus and because of the time schedule many groups had busy rehearsals after school. GEORGE HAYNES Choral Director Choir Makes First Superior In Five Years After many intense rehearsals, the Robed Choir, Girls' Chorus, Boys' Chorus, Junior Chorus and Seventh Grade Chorus boarded the busses in the early morning hours for the trip to State Contest at the University of Alabama. The results were very gratifying. The Robed Choir, performing both selections A Cappella, received their first Superior Rating in five years. The Boys' Chorus, meeting after school and at other times when possible, received an Excellent Rating. They were the only boys group selected for our district. The Girls' Chorus received an excellent rating also. Again rehearsal time conflicted with the many other activ- ities. Both Seventh Grade Chorus received it's second superior rating since it was organized by Mr. Haynes last year. The Junior Chorus received an excellent rating under the direction of Mr. Carroll, student conductor. 7 Junior Chorus The Junior Chorus consists of eighth and ninth grade students who have had seventh grade general music. This choir serves as a feeder choir for the Robed Choir. The students perform each year in the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and District Competition-Festival. The Junior Chorus received an excellent rating at state contest this year. lst ROW: T. Helm, B. Bowen, B. Tankersley, L. Burnham, K. Todd, B. Williams, L. Greene, I. Kilgore, B. Clifton, D. STRIKE, all combine with the sounds of the high schoo1's sports world to make up the athletic program of Saks High. As Saks spectators and players go from game to game and community to community they not only take the name of Saks to many parts of the state, but they con- stantly display the great spirit and sense of fair play for which the Wildcats are known. Though the game may not always be won, self discipline, sportsmanship and courage, points, which we value in the game of life, have been gained through participation in the interscholastic sports program. This was made possible by a joint effort by many people. We, the Echoes Staff, would like to thank the student body for allowing us to have the honor of the student's trust in composing this year 's annual.
