Murphy, Father Kopp. maze, On December 14, the Mighty Midgets found the highly- regarded Imlay City as their initial foe. However, in the closing seconds, the Spartans, after being handed their first defeat of the season, 68-59, realized that St. Pete's was destined to become a state basketball power. And the Midgets lived up to early season predictions, for they were rated among the top ten teams in the state throughout the basketball year. Led by Seniors Jim Hudson, Coe Roberts, Paul Wellman, Al iBuckyl Edwards, Jerry Nawrock, and Roger Bauer, the team whizzed through their thirteen regular season games with only one defeat. The Midgets set a torrid scoring pace, averaging 67.5 points, while holding their op- ponents to an average of 50.0 points a game. St. Pete's also recaptured the Valley Parochial League Championship, after being dethroned two years ago by St. Andrew's, thus ending a seven-year reign. The Midgets had a 9-l record in league play. Much credit must be given to the Midget's superb bas- ketball coach, Mike Lazorchak, for the time he has given to make SS. Peter and Paul's a state threat al- most every year ot his fifteen years spent as head coach of the Midgets. ln these years he has had an astounding record of 215 wins and 55 losses. Thanks, Mike, for again achieving your goal-St. Pete's-Valley Champs! ' .lame First row: R. Navarro, K. Fischer, J. Bauer, H. Mellon, Manager, R. Bartels, D. Jacobi. Second row: D. Yule, R. Woods, D.
