Lv Z'-ff' 'N -33 ' N X. we wowl Thou art all fair O Mary and the ongmal stain IS not in thee Since God desired that the mother of H1s Divine Son be free from all stain of sin He provided from the very 1nstant of her conception that her soul be radiant and pure As far back as the fifth century many people observed the Feast of the Immaculate Conception but it was not officially raised to the dignity of a feast until 1476 In 1846 we the Catholics of the Uruted States adopted her as the patroness of our country under this revered title In 1854 Pope Pius declared December 8 as a holy day of obligation set aside for special honor to the Immaculate Concept1on He likewise proclaimed a an infallible teaching that the Virgin in the first mstant of her conception was by a singular grace and pr1v11ege of Almighty God in view of the Ments of Iesus Chnst the savior of the human race preserved exempt from all sta1n of sm Mary manifested her joy by appeanng to a small child Bernadette Soubirous 1n Lourdes France world was waiting to hear I am the Immaculate Conception In this encyclical F ulgens Corona Glonae Pope Pius XII has bestowed even greater honor upon Mary by proclaiming the year from December 8 1953 until December 8 1954 as a Manan year in order that Catholics throughout the world may give spec1a1 devotion to her Immaculate Heart We the Seniors of the Class of 54 heeding the Holy Fathers Marian Year call to youth to make Mary their model to be hke her beautiful and good and ever firm in the face of evil chose the Blessed Virgin under the title of the Immaculate Conception as our patroness Mary was one of us We are human beings So was Mary Moreover her D1v1ne Son bequeathed her to us as our Mother It IS but natural that she realizes our tnals and needs As the mother of Christ Mary IS able to obtain d1v1ne aid for us at all tunes Daily we pray to Mary asking her to help us live lives worthy of her D'1V1Ile Son We the youth of today look to the future eager willing hesitant but fortified by devotion to Mary and confident in her power Genevieve Naleson 54 2 I n . . . . . . n . Using a baffling mixture of passing and running, the Midgets marched to score regularly. St. Mary's-20 SS. Peter and Paul-45 An upstart Maroon team held the highly regarded Midgets to a 13-13 halftime tie before the Midgets poured it on to win going away. The Maroons, flashing a good passing attack, were the first team to score against the mighty Midgets. Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart-18 SS. Peter and Paul-14 The Midgets' only upset of the season oc- curred in this Sunday's game. Again it was a passing attack which lead to the scores, two of them coming that Way and the other one set up by the aerial route. The Midgets fought valiantly but the Academy gridders were too highly inspired for their Homecoming. Boysville--6 SS. Peter and Paul-20 The hardcharging Midget line and backfield loaded with talent showed the reason for their seasonal success in their final game. They swamped the Boysville team and confirmed their high rating in the state. Strengthened by the joy of victory, the team paid tribute to their coach by shouldering him off the field after the game. eiduan Seasan in Wwiew St. Mike's-0 SS. Peter and Paul-19 The Midgets avenged their only loss of last year's season on this clear Sunday night. A rugged defense kept St. Mike's offense in check while the Midget offense ripped through St. Mike's line. Imlay City-0 SS. Peter and Paul-33 A smashing defense again held the oppon- ents scoreless and the Midgets' offense went through the Imlay City defense almost at will. Bay City St. Ioe's-0 SS. Peter and Paul--0 The Midgets were held to a scoreless dead- lock by the rugged Yellowjackets. The defense saved the day. Midget rooters felt they should have won the game when a punt bounced off the St. Ioe's safety man and into the end zone, where it was recovered by a Yellowjacket. However, the official ruled that St. Ioe's had not furnished the impetus to send the ball into the end zone, so it was only a touchback. St. Stan's-0 SS. Peter and Paul-20 The Midgets' defense handled the offense of the Stags while they scored enough to insure a victory.
