THE SAINT VINCENT PREPARATORY SCHDOL In humzlzt he leads us to Goal Upon entering Saint Vincent in the lall ol' 1955, we came to know our dillerent sus periors perhaps by a formal introduction or by seeing them frequently in the halls. One ol these meetings resulted in the friendship which we were to cherish through our days in the Prep and those to come v that with Father klerome Rupprecht, 05.15. lt did not consist tnerely ol' the precursory nice to know you, Father, but it was a warm wel- come to Saint Vincent with the promise ol guidance and help. Now in his thirty-eighth year as a priest ol' God, Father Jerome has acted as our teach- er, moderator, and eonliessor. Never was there a day in his geometry or trig classes when we would not be enjoying his quick and subtle sense ol' humor or receiving bits ol' his vast knowledge ol' mathematics. As moderator ol' the outdoor club he always seemed to have an arrowhead hunt or a trip to Chestnut Ridge planned for us. As our conlessor and spiritual advisor he never failed to appear six mornings a week to olI'er counsel and advice or spiritual aid to those in need. NVe never hesitated to take our troubles to him, lor he always seemed to ect start for a day. I ther ,lt-rome, Michalclyk. I wt I our . However, the Clzirnffs has gone one step father by illustrating the totality ol' all educational influences at the Prep. The basic idea ol' mental, spiritual, and emotional development may be seen in the daily schedule followed by the student during his college preparatory course. This basic idea of education of the Whole man is also evident in the extracurricular activities and spiritual guidance in which the student participates. For this reason the CllI'H1!f.S' of '59 has been divided into three main sections stress- ing equally the educational training both inside and outside the classroom. Mental training, physical activities, social events, moral and spiritual development are com- bined to form the whole personalityg this is the goal we have set for ourselves - the Christian Gentleman. Although we see very little of him, Archabbot Denis Strittmatter, O.S.B., is the strongest indirect influence in our lives. He wisely plans, directs, and executes decisions to keep St. Vincent running smoothly so that we may absorb all that is offered us. This efficient management ol' the lives of so many is truly a manifestation of a great man. Father Louis is outstanding in our minds, not merely because he is our head- Arcllrzhbol ofSr1ir1t Vincenl master, but because of his sincere concern in each student as an individual. This con- cern is illustrated in many different ways, from a smile and pat on the back to a chance to do better next time. Indeed, Father Louis is the picture of the man whom some day we hope to equal. ln his amiable manner, Father Pirmin, our assistant headmaster, gained many ad- mirers among the Prepsters. XYhen the Prep uve entered the Clatholie and counts tournaments this past basketball season, district sports writers were skeptical and aniafed that the Prep tealn had pro- duced such an outstanding eoinehaek lroin the record ol' past seasons. Mr. Bacha. and Bacon. Education deals not only with the mind but is also important physically. At St. Vin- cent a program oi' lIlU'2lllllll'2llS is sponsored to help the boys who are not capable ol Varsity participation to enjoy a schedule ol lootball, basketball, and softball. Each hall has a supervised schedule ol' games which are very highly spirited, and arouse feeling ol great interest and com- petition. Besides these games the Prep ollers the lacilities for every physical activity which a person can possibly desire. A spacious gyni- nasium, an adequately equipped physical education room, and an innnense athletic field which gives a boost to the activity ol' both the indoor and outdoor sportsinan. These are the sources ol Prep recreation, and a nleans for one to realize his specific athletic achievernents. These advantages arc presented to all, but it is up to the individu- al to use thetn. To the average Prepster who enjoys ath- letics, St. Vincent boasts activities which will encourage his interests in lair competition and sportstnanship.
