1 f. Some Games In Bag: Some Almost In Bag Coach O'Brien's team was one of largest in Aquinas history. With a large number of subs available, more players saw action. Freshmen and sophomores worked as a unit despite the short training time together. According to one ofthe players, Coach O'Brien was one of best coaches the team has had. . .everybody liked him. . .even though we didn't win too many games. Average weight and size of team evened out to about 155 pounds, and Five feet, eight inches per team member. Freshmen seemed to have the weight where the sophomores edged them out on speed. This speed was the telling element in the practice game in which the sophomores outscored their'fres hman teammates. Summarizing the past season, the team was outployed in one or two of the contests, but in others took it too easy. In the game with Laboure, the ball was Aquinas's, First and ten with a foot to go, We l1ad'em. But the pass down center didn't make it and We lost the ball. Individual team members give promise to the '64 season, both in B-team and Varsity competition. Norman Moellering, Guy Almeling, Jim Cook, and Dan Wagner, freshmen, saw regular service during '63 and will probably see more action in '64. Likely to move into Varsity spots are Sophomore: John Shields, Dave Fahrenhorst, and Mark Kussman. Kussmon made almost every touchdown for the team during the past season.
