1 I- Bfiiir .! Ti-ie sT. PAui.'s sci-soot 'Egg Covington ' Louisiana U 70433 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FOR YEARBOOK The year 1970-71 has been one of much soul-searching. It has been one of dissatisfaction in many respects: students have been dissatisfied with some teachers and the adminis- tration, the faculty has been dissatisfied with the lack of student responsibility. On my part I readily admit that this has not been our best year. We have had some weak teachers, our student council has not been effective as the voice of the student body, mostly through student apathy. Our student body has not been willing to shoulder its re- sponsibility in facing up to school problems which have arisen. The handbook revision committee quit working when the curri- culum committee refused to drop all grooming and dress re- gulations. Some students complained that the disciplinarian was too strict, others that he was not strict enough. What makes a good school a GREAT school? Evidently St. Paul's possesses all of the elements to be a great school, and it has been so in the past, with an occasional lapse into mediocrity What is needed now is a new thrust, an added direction to achieve the faculty-student cooperation which will bring all of our good elements together and give our school the dimension of greatness which it lacked this past year. This direction and thrust will be attempted at the beginning of the new school term. We must identify and direct our student leaders so that they can discover their identity and recognize their role with their peer group and with the faculty. I feel very confident that this coming year we have the staff to recognize and en- courage the type of responsible leadership which this school needs. Only time will tell if this very possible dream will be realized in '72.
