With only seventeen players on the squad, the St. Paul Lutheran High Beacons were able to finish their football season on a four won and two loss note. Up until the last game of the season, the Beacons were able to stay away from injuries and so could always field the best of their iron men. All-conference honors were given to Steve Krinke, Duane Burmeister, and Jim Anderson. With only two of the players graduating, Rev. Glenn Baumann will be look- ing forward to the return of fifteen squad mem- bers next fall. Now boys, it's as simple as this Daryl Johnson intercepted a pass and ran twenty yards to score, with Pete Lange guarding the touchdown run. Teamwork is the key word. 'A1l's fair in love and war The opening game of the season against Mayer proved to be the Beacons most decisive. This tragic loss cost them the championship, But win or lose, they displayed spectacular offensive plays. With Mayer leading 7-0, the completion of the game was changed when Steve Krinke made smashing headway through their defensive line and scored a touch- down. The keen eye of the defense was shown as Daryl Johnson made a pass interception and ran twenty yards for the touchdown. Despite the desperate efforts exerted by the iron men , Mayer maintained the upper hand, winning by only two points. This loss was compensated by a four game win- ning streak. L. this year has proved to be better than any past season. The Beacons of 1964-1965 had a team that went out on the floor with a mind to Win. Our coach had Whipped them into one of the best defensive teams in the Tri- Valley Conference. This year we had greater height, better shooting, and improved ball handling. All in all it's been a terrific season, and prospects for future years look very bright. Practice makes perfect and that is our goal. ' ..a..,..-z...-p D , . ,,A. Wi... I Front row: K. Rahng R. The fine pitching of Ron Rulli Q99 strike outs in conference gamesj and the consistant hitting of Dudley Johnson, Doug Hoppe, and Ron I-linz led the way. Better defense could have added a few more victories. Graduated seniors Johnson, Hoppe, Ernie Bens en, and Keith Nally, will have to be replaced in 1965. S. P.
