So, the C Division, which is the administrative organization for the Radio- men, Telemen, and Signalmen, appears in the section of this book devoted to shipis company. The communicators take pride in operating one of the finest and most modern systems installed in any Navy ship. But this is only part of the story, for this system still requires intelligent and devoted personnel to make it work. Here, we are fortunate in having highly trained men who are dedicated to the task of handling very high volumes of traffic. It is a unique group of men in that they all are required to know each other's job and in this rate, that means quite alot. The rate of Ship Service Man is generally divided into five separate jobs: Barber, Tailor, Laundry Man Cobbler, and Clerk. The non-rated men in the division 7 are rotated into the various jobs each quarter, to gain practical ex- perience, and for advancement purposes, to decide on which specialist designation they would desire in higher pay grades. The division motto, 4' Saints of all Tradesn cou1dn't more ap- propriate for this group of men, and a short tour around the ship ex- plains it. You may see men busy in all of the divisional spaces through- out the ship, and even though you may have to wait in line at one time or another, it just shows you more how these men effect your life on board. The Laundry takes care of all of your clothing problems. from washing and drying, to stain removing and supplying press whites for all divisions, and the Tailor Shop makes all necessary alterations and mending needed for your uniforms and presses blues. Besides taking care of shoe repairs, the S-3 Cobbler also maintains the soft drink machines in working order. The Ship Store Office. besides order- ing items for sale in the Ship Store, takes special orders for items from larger exchanges on Naval bases, and special items in Small Stores. The Navy has advanced remarkably, from the days when a sailor had to buy a roll of thin canvas to make his own clothing. and the drying of clothes was usually done from the mainmast, to the etlicient and versatile team of Ship Service Men of today, and with the spirit of Ss?-. may go even farther!
