Blessed Virgin Sotlality 'l'he attendance at the usual monthly communion is a praisewortlty custom of faithful Socialists of Our Lady. .Xt St. Michael's Parish, under the direction of Reverend Fr. Yiiendelin Meis. CLP., the Sodalists meet on the fourth Sunday of each month. first in church at the altar rail. then for a social gathering in the evening. The social calendar ol' the Sodalists is usually clitnaxed hy an anntlal Mother- Daughter Social for Nlother's Day. This is preceded by a beautiful ceremony during the tnonth of May recognizing Mary as the Queen of angels and men. A procession. in which all Sodalists take part. is followed hy the crowning of the Blessed Mother's statueg the honor of crowning the statue is conferred on the most outstanding So- dalist of the graduating class of each year. This year, the faculty selected Ruth Reich tat lefty. Student Makes Contribution Louise Cralka. Cat extreme rightj, was the most outstanding Senior of the gradu- ating class of '-17. As president of the Stu- dent Council. Louise demonstrated her leadership and ability as an organizer. Gavel Honor Society Two outstanding members of the society are pictured at right. Edward Mours and james Doyle, tlriglitj, who have been mem- bers since the Gavel Honor Society was established in 1943. It is a branch chapter of the Masque and Gavel of Northwestern University. which was established for the promotion of better public speaking. li'herever speech-making is featured. Gavel Honor members are to he found. Repre- sentatives of this organization have made many wortlnvhile contributions to the lields of public speaking and debating both inside and outside of school, Problems Discussion Club Several very active members of the Proh- lenls of Democracy class who are also inembers of the Gavel Honor were not satislled with the practice in public speak- ing secured through the periodic meetings. lVith the concurrence of their teacher. Sister Mary llc Sales. this group formed a l'. D. C. Club which conducted daily sessions during the class period. The Club sponsored panels, debates, and forums speciali7ing in discussions of world prob- letns. Believing that the best Catholic is the informed Catholic, the Club members con- ducted a minatnre Congress modeled on that of Senate and the l-louse. This Con- gress was in session when Anthony Obid- zinski's picture on page 39 was snapped as he addressed his colleagues. The members of the Congress argued proposed bills. C-lee Club Carolers The Clee Club. under the leadership ol' Sophie Svieuty as president. has made at dozen appearances during the past year. .Xt Clnisunas time. the Senior class tnent- hers olf the club made a visit to St. joseplfs Home for Aged i'Vomen.
