Glee Club Takes To The Air On November 2. 1946, the Glee Club participated in the Hi-Timers Broadcast over KQV by rendering Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming in lour voices. Arlene Krugh did her ever-popular imper- sonation of Carmen Miranda. Sophie Svienly. who had been prepared to sing Merry Life, and Nor- bert Pietrzak to play his accordian later performed at a school assembly. Back To The Gay Nineties As we look into the present, past, and future, the high school students are becoming educated along dramatic lines. This is a distinct advantage for the drama is one of the great branches of public speak- ing. With the Passion Play requiring a cast of 150, where could a better opportunity be found for one to educate himself in this field? The picture on page 39 is a scene from Veronica's Veil with Donald Stehle, Cleopha Froelich. and Florian Krappweis as Christus. The Alumni opened the school season with a smash hit entitled Then and Now. a gay-nineties musical revue. The high school students, pictured at left. participated. The annual class play. trained by .-Krmella Fritz Carrick. proves that Drama is the thing at S.M.H.S. according to the students. Literary Endeavors Spur Seniors Original skits, cheers. adapted songs. poems and stories owe their composition to the initiative of six Senior girls who make a hobby of this literary en- deavor. Many a brain child has sprung -from the fertile minds of Shirley Xl'illiatns. Louise Kight- linger and Louise Gralka Qseated opposite. left to rightj. Christ's Kingdom on earth can be spread by thc printed word as well as by its verbal expression. With this in mind literary composition receives care- ful consideratioti at S.M.l-LS. Self-Expression Through Speeches In this day and age when Qreech making is such an important phase of life in society. Catholic leaders must be prepared to defend their Faith. With this end in view, speech work is made an integral part of all subjects involving self-expression. james Doyle tleftj and Edward Mours have made numerous public appearances as speakers since the founding in I9-lf! of the Gavel Honor Society for the promotion of improved public speaking. In their junior year they were outstanding tlebaters.
