From Pagan Lands Heeded 'l'he Seniors, under the guidance of the Catholic A'ction officers. have undertaken many projects in order to present both spiritual and material as- sistance to the foreign missions. The students pictured on page ZH are tlelt to rightj: Alice Niemiec. lillcn Rulling, Virginia Gross. Those seated are Louise Kightlinger and ljleanor Geskosky. l'ictured on page 35 trightj are the guest speakers at the most beautiful program of the year. The Marian Program. This presentation emphatically stressed the students' need for the Blessed Virgin. and the advantages of praying the Rosary in her honor. The speakers are left to right: lidward hl0lll'S. Louise Gralka. Norbert Pietrzak. Helen l'aylick. Discussing World Problems In proportion as time and space are shrinking with the improved methods of communication man's mental outlook must be broadened to the perspec- tive of ever widening horizons. This is the task con- fronting the student of sociology totlay if Cl1rist's principles are to control the world's activities. Tile Problems Discussion Club of the l'.O.D. Class has made national situations their immediate and most important concern in their daily sessions, especially the Congress featured on page 35 with Anthony Ohidzinski as guest speaker. Ruth Reich is conduct- ing a round table. which is one of the regular fea- tures of the P. D. CI. Club. The panel over which Miss Reich presided centered arotlnd the topic: How ll'e Clan Improve Our Local Conditions. Sophs Sew Busily During Home Ee. Home Economics is a thorough, scientific analysis uf the skills needed by a good housekeeper. The teacher, Sister M. Helen, initiates her students into the art of making a home. Some of the aptitudes developed are machine sewing. knitting. tatting. cro- chcting and needlework. as well as designing and the creation of becoming garments. Budgeting the family income and interior decorating of the home are given due attention. The brand new cooking etpiipment. installed in lfcbruary of 19-17, will service twenty-four students. The year's sewing project included. in addition to the making of the girl's own gHI'tIlCtllS. the prepara- tion of dresses for the jubilee procession of Rev. Father Winfrid, C.l'. Monograms For Every Occasion The appreciation of beauty in all its forms raises the mind and heart to God. The creation of beauty is the sublimest product of man's capacity for self- expression. Art. recently introduced at S.M.H.S.. prepares the way for the interior decorating unit of the Home liconomies program and lays the ground work for color combinations in garment making for the girls. Boys have the opportunity of developing their in- nate ability along the lines of commercial art and interior decorating. The classooms of the Alma Mater show the work of these enthusiastic artists.
