XVEST, AND BOB WEST LNLOAD THE CAR September brings ambitious and eager Stu- dents through the broad and welcoming portals of Saint Marys Our farewells to parents are accompanied by eager antici- pation of the joys of the new School year. The old friendly Smiles and the new shy ones greet us as we commence the seem- ingly endless task of unpacking trunks. New bedspreads, drapes, rugs, chintz-cov- ered chairs, and gay pictures transform the rooms. We all carefully read the 'Ldo's and don'ts. Freshmen scurry to placement tests. Others hurry to register, to plan class schedules, and to take physical ex- ams. Soon, with the vibrant summons of the familiar bells, the students fall once again into the Saint Marys way of life. vw' One of our autumn guests, Mother Aline, a French Benedictine, stepped out of Clare Booth Luce's Come to the Stable into the heart of Saint Marys to tell us her own story of founding a house of cloistered Benedictines in America. This year was high-lighted with contribu- tions from many other well-known person- alities. Maisie Ward Sheed brought us the eagerly awaited account of the Church in France which we had expected from the witty and unpredictable Bruce Mar- shall who told us how to write novels in- stead. We became acquainted with Saint Thomas Aquinas, the teacher, through Dr. Joseph Pieper's talks. Irving Cobb's daughter, 'Elizabeth Rogers, introduced us to one of her best friends, St. joseph Cu- pertino, and told us of his part in her conversion.
