MAULING MARTIANS Top row: HANNON, TAYLOR. BROWN. Bottom row: MARTIN. FITZSIMMONS. PEARSON. JOHN MILLS John Mills. Olympia frosh, started his college grid career in a blaze of glory by winning u berth on the AU-Winco team. John was on the receiving end of many a touchdown pass whipped goalward by Frank Sinclair. EARL CARRIER Earl Carrier, scat-back for the Rangers, showed his fleet footed ability by leading the way in Winco league scoring. Earl was voted a spot on the AU-Winco second team. The Rangers started out their football season with a run of bad luck by dropping their first game to Pacific Lutheran. Everett Junior College, next on the Saints schedule, succumbed to the fiery efforts of the Martians. With a victory under their belts the Lacey gridmen treked to Cheney where the mighty Eastern team proved too much for the unexperienced Chapman coached team. A fighting St. Martin ' s team nearly brought on the upset of league play by losing a heart breaker to Central College of Education. Centralia Junior College proved unable to cope with the Ranger might as the Saints chalked up their second win of the season. Whitworth College, of Spo- kane, brought a scrappy team to Olympia and garnered a close win over the local Laceyites. In a final homestretch sprint the Rangers bowled over the Vikings, from Western Washington College of Education, and the champion- ship Bremerton Navy team for a .500 per cent average for the season. 22
