Rclinquishing our dependence upon our priests, teachers and friends we lay plans for our livcs as young Catholic citizens. We will serve well if we practice what we have been taught-service to God and neighbor. As we leave St. Josephis High we promise to imitate our honored patron. We will use the hammer of initiative and the square of perse- verance and, with the torch of hope burning within us, construct roads to heaven. When despair overshaclows us, we shall re- call the days we spent together and the lesson we learned: Man was made to know, love, and serve God on earth and be happy with Him forever in heaven, With this in mind, we, the Graduates of 1959, present the story of our acceptance of the challenge of SERVICE. ! The feature dance, done by Loraine Kramer, Daniel Trainor, Carolyn jones, Robert Detig, Claire Niederberger, Robert Bates, Deanna Best, joseph Pavlick, and Josephine Bowers, added a touch of popular Latin-American rhythm to T.M. U. This particular Night at T. M. U. was a hectic one. The Count Von Wfeinerheister was expected, and to please him was a must for he could complete their endowment to the Athletic Fund. The program went awry when Snooze Andrews, the star comedian, failed to appear. Things toolc a turn for the better when the football game was won and the dance was a brilliant success. To conclude the evening in victory, Snooze doffed the Count's costume and was hailed as the hero, for he had won the Countls favor by playing Good Samaritan when the Count had car trouble. K gelzfmq fagafiefl 1 Sn rts Education for us has not been all work and no play, for in the interim of our work, we have developed skills in sports, which have played an important part in our curriculum. The various teams: basketball, baseball and bowling have provided a spirit in the school that has brought a mist of cheer which sometimes conceals the more serious part of our youth. Whether we are in the game fighting for the honor of the Flying Dutchmenn or on the side encouraging the team to take the lead and cheering them.in their victory, we thereby remain loyal a 'd true to the Red and Blue of St. Joseph . 3114 E i ff? Ronald Geyer and Louis Sitzman are demonstrating the set shot and the ever necessary good defense. James Sommer's driving has kept the opposing teams on guard. William Hoglc is one of the brightest spots in St. Joseph's future. William Nicderhcrgcr and Joseph Zovko going for that all important tip during practice, know that determination is the kcy to success in basketball as well as in any sport. The last six members rounding out our squad in good fashion are: James Dinkel, Donald Fix, David Kapfer, Thomas Howe, Richard Moeslein, and John Ott. Mr. Schultz has been the inspirational Basketball Basketball is pre-eminently one of the most popular sports. Is is an engrossing display of grace, finesse and power. These words leap to mind instantly at the sight of a player bringing the ball upcourt on one of those fast explosive breaks. Furious competition at the highest level of playing makes basketball such a great game. The Flying Dutchmenv have experienced this type of competition and have completed another successful season. Coach Robert Schultz and the spiritual director, Father Herrmann, were instru- mental in developing the best athletic ability of the players, at the same time building character through good sportsmanship.
