n MATHEMATICS Brother H. Columban, B.S., M.A. Milwaukee School of Engineering, Memphis State University Religion IV, Physics, Geometry Basketball Moderator, Benildus Club Moderator Chairman: Mathematics Department Brother Columban, the new chairman of the mathematics department, has actively led the mathematics teachers and students to higher achievements this past year. Advanced math analysis was taught to college-bound seniors, and training in the use of the slide rule was part of several courses. Many pamphlets, enrichment books, and new tools have been utilized by the teachers as aids. Freshmen and sophomore classes have written themes and have constructed geometric designs as well as delved into the theory of math. Next year, says Brother Columban, SaintGeorge will introduce a new revised mathematics course into the freshman program with hopes that in a short time, it will be offered to the whole student body. The commerce department under Mr. Amidei ' sguidancehas made considerable progress each year. With the commerce students reporting that their courses have been more than challenging, this past year was no exception. Government aids and pamphlets were used; the economics classes practiced on income tax forms, the bookkeeping classes profited by banking accounting systems. Financial experts were heard by the students, and as usual, many -an amateur bookkeeper sweated over a hidden error in his project.
