Dedication In accordance with this year ' s theme, THE WHOLE MAN, the 1962 GEORGIAN wishes to honor a man who has achieved outstanding success in, building the character of Saint George students--Max Burnell. Having an outstanding athletic career himself at Duluth Cathedral High School in Minnesota and Notre Dame University, Mr. Burnell is well qualified by his training-- both intellectually and physically-to be the Athletic Director of Saint George High School. His personal quahties-dynamic leadership, attractive personality, dogged persistence, and a friendly cheerfulness-enables him to effectively work with students and obtain the results he has in view. Saint George teams under Coach Burnell have won many national, state and city championships. Trophies have been added to our case so often that the Saint George Dragons have traditionally become synonymous around the Chicago area with first-rank football teams. 1961 was no exception. Champions of the new Chicagoland Prep League and ranked number five in Illinois, the Dragons posted their first undefeated season in their history. Mr. Burnell, however, is not just a coach of winning football teams. It that is all he was, this issue of the GEORGIAN would not be dedicated to him. Much more than this, Mr. Burnell has excelled in his ability to develop boys into men. By his insistence on high standards of sportsman- ship, by requiring manliness, by demanding service, generosity, and teamwork, by stimulating his players with aggressiveness and drive, by encouraging excellence in studies, and by pressing for exact obedience to training rules and his commands, he has in every way developed the students of Saint George into whole men. This, the GEORGIAN feels, is Mr. Burnell ' s greatest service to Saint George High School. -lar
