Edger L. Murray was first elected to the St. Clair Board of Education on April 6, 1943, and served unselfishly for eighteen years, which is the longest term any present or past member of the Board has served in the school's history. He was elected president of the Board on April 4, 1944, and held that position con- tinuously for seventeen years, which is the longest term as president of the Board served by any person in the history of the school. He gave his time and energy in a most devoted manner by being present at the board meetings regularly. With a great deal of wisdom and forethought, he led the people of the school district in the building of a bigger and better school system by the passage of four bond issues forthe building of a new high school, new kindergarten, new upper grade building, and remodeling of the old buildings, through the passage of the reorganization of the district which added nine rural digtrigts to the St, Clair system, and by the raising of the school classification to a state AA rating. He gave intelligent leadership in the employment and direction ofa competent school faculty. He fully recognized the duties of a school board member and the proper relationship the board member should have with the administration, the faculty, and the other members ofthe Board which resulted in efficient and smooth operation. He gained and held the love and respect of all who worked with him on the Board, on the administrative staff, on the faculty, and among the people. Because of his wise and faithful leadership to our school system for eighteen years, we, hereby, dedicate this yearbook to his name. Forgive my grief for one removed Thy creature whom I found so fair I trust he lives in Thee, and there I find him worthier to be loved. Tennyson. In memoriam
