Robert Louis Stevenson's TREAS- URE ISLAND enters one's thoughts when considering the term PIRATES. As students, I hope that your treasures lie buried in good books, in searching for truth, in following precepts and examples of teachers, and by exercising good conscientious effort to recognize and solve your problems. Follow- ing this program will result in rich rewards and fond memories which will remain with you for many years. Roy L. Clemons A pirate, according to the lexicons, is one who is guilty of piracy. Guilty, did we say? Does the ancient use of this term evoke from us a c0ntinued admis- sion of our guilt? Indeed, to the con- trary, for fortunately the art of lan- guage has a happy way of adjusting it- self to new associations and to new mean- ings. So we in our student life now think of a pirate as one who draws from every possible opportunity, the potentials of success and achievement. Indeed the term pirate has a growing connotation that commands our respect, our loyalty, and our allegiance. So heres to the l'Pirates of St. Charles High School! Stephen Blackhurst

Charlemo time means the close of an- other school year for most of us. Time to pause, take stock and evaluate our plans, for the future. During the past school year we have each had one thing in common, an equal amount of time to use. I hope that most of you feel that this time has been used wisely to develop additional skills, earn worthy friendships, and strengthen your moral and spiritual character. I believe most of you have learned the value of hard work. Your education is a lifetime assignment. You are your teacher - be proud of your pupil! Mr. Burgur These walls do not a prison make. The keys that I carry are the keys to a way of education. Initiative is the proper attitude, a key to success in all walks of life. Mr. Maxon
