There. there is freedom of action and of speech governed only by a few necessary laws: there, there are rewards as well as penalf ties. The student is trained for participation in a democ- racy by the necessity for compliance with social rules. Cooperation in a democratic way insures a good class attitude: a good class attitude makes a good thinker: a good thinker makes a good citizen: a good citizen makes a good state. The classroom is the starting point of a successful nation. I The past football season at St. Charles High School was rather unsuccess- ful as far as victories are concerned: however. the fight and spirit displayed by this light and fast team more than makes up for the deficiency of victories. Wlaile we will lose several valuable players by graduation many of the Pirate squad will return in the fall. We opened our season with a convincing lZ-7 victory against Central High School. Bad breaks and over-anxiety kept our score down to two touchdowns. Upposition was next furnished by the Mexico team whose deceptixe play overcame our boys fight and spirit and we were forced to bow in defeat The following week Ritenour trounced us al l-l On Qetober l-l an older heavier and more experienced Principia College team opposed us and handicapped bx iniuries to Briegel and Bi7elli we were no match for them Our bad luck continued and on the following week vse lost to Crystal Citi 7 6K Our fortunes finally changed though and we gained our second xictory f e eison over DeSoto by a score of l-l 7 The next week vee were handed 3 BQ at our Homecoming by Clayton e last two games of the season were with Kirkwood and Wellston and both gam resulted in defeats We are however looking forward to a more prosperous eason next fall e on vi ie r s i rtmi 1 1 ne i un 5 hni 9 hub re B Hun lhtfl Rovi i ii .1 u on g r n r roun u s llae I fzfty neo C iplwn tX'lin lourth love iti e useher cw nd mini 11 sr 1 r ti Q r Lowe lick ring Wilkins Qehore lon x b I 1 . In place of spooks, and a ghost walk, the main feature of the evening was a Lambeth Walk contest. lt was a strange, strange sight to see ghosts, goblins. gypsies, and bums swinging their partners in the walks and whirls of this modern dance. The couple who swung mightiest were Walker Oelklaus and Annabelle Horan and they were awarded the grand prize.
