Then carne the presentation of the flag, Sister Antoin- ette received it from Mr, Arthur Steigerwald, repres- entative ot the Perry Post of the American Legion. '14 1 + E35 TIME'S ABIDING FINGER WRITES MEMORIES THAT LINGER ,I The 1955 Seniors , Concluding our higr sshocl Clays we look back on four fleeting years of laughter and happiness, each one with its own special characteristics. Our freshman year was one of new experiences and new friends. Almost before we realized it we were sophisticated sophomores in the midst of the initiation of our little sisters and those charming biology labs. With the iunior year came our treasured class rings which distinguish- M. Kaib ed us from underclassmen. Our long-anticipated senior year arrived and departed even faster than we anticipated and the two biggest oc- casions of our high school career, prom night and graduation day, were ours. All are now memories which we shall cherish forever. The future for which we've been preparing during our interlude at 5. B. A, is unfolding its curtain to admit us into an untried chapter of our life. Imagine, only one more year until WE would be the seniors! We were soon wondering why we were so anxious for seniordom after ell, since our role as juniors was so pleasant. The success of Mistletoe Memories, our Chris- tmas dance, not only produced an enviable co- operative spirit, but provided a lilting evening for our classmates. We iuniors were well-represented in the Glee Club and Orchestra, forensics and basketball. Quite pleased were those iuniors who were 57 chosen for membership in diocesan honor societies. Receiving our class rings was an exciting high- light of our iunior year. We hope never to dim the luster of the band by unbecoming conduct. Our last formal gesture of good will toward the seniors was a festive, well-wishing Senior Banquet. Among more important triumphs we achieved this year were in the spiritual domain gained through Father Rodgers' religion classes, Father Terrence's retreat, and th: example and whole- some instructions of our homeroom teachers, Sisters Amelia, Gonzaga, Carolyn, and Mary Robert. Long-enduring and truly cooperative efforts enabled the hard working staff of THE BENE- DICTA of 1955 to prepare for their feliow students a virtual treasure chest of memories. Enterprising editors, Betty Lou and Norma, Marty and Sylvia, directed the energies of their capable staff members along constructive channels. With pictures and copy, they to- gether produced a record not only of big events but of little nothings which are so precious to the S. B. Afers who lived them. Hectic days of picture taking, of writing and rewriting, of headlines and features, and the sometimes frustrating ad campaign, had to be experienced before the dummy was sub- mitted to the printer. While struggling under the strain of deadlines, the editors often doubted the possibility of a finished book. Their persistent efforts however, blossomed into THE BENEDICTA of '55, As June approached, the commonest topic of between-class conversation among the stu- dents was the yearbook Oh, that nerve racking anticipation! Had the printer's supply of paper become exhausted? Worse yet, had the manuscript of the book been lost in trans- portation? Feature Stall: A. Bucher reminds hor attentive listeners, P. Angelo use the quiet of the library for yearbook research. Cinerama is a remarkable achievement. Our library is able to produce this marvelous effect with books on travel, science, history, biography, fiction, and doctrine. Seniors found the library's reference room es- pecially helpful as they compiled term papers. Library... HAVEN OF KNOWLEDGE AND NEW ADVENTURE The persevering juniors struggled through vol- umes of verse and meter in search of poetic in- spiration. The biographical section of our library was in constant demand when the sophomores were writing reports on yesterdays heroes, two F's of the Academy, freshmen and fiction, found much enioyment together. Under the competent tutelage of Mr. William Gruber, the team proveo that sportsmanship consisted in taking wins and de- feats equitablyg also in readily supporting the team as team members at times other than dur- ing actual league games. Commendation is in order to the players whose BILL GRUBER Coach fine spirit brought them to practice any time Coach Gruber thought necessary. They worked hard building a strong team. Playing with all it could muster, the team hnished the season with a record of 7 wins and 3 loses to take third place in the Class A of the Diocesan League. The team is losing only Norma Schueler through graduation, so it should be above the average with half a dozen experienced players. , , , A I ill l Corbin, J.
