The finest, purest gem in any Seniorls treasure chest is that which reflects, from a heart Filled with love and gratitude, our parents and teachers, we know now, if never before, that their criticisms and encouragements will be largely responsible for anything We may accomplish in life, and that their superiority was manifested in a gentler, more loving manner than any the future can possibly bring. Remember, Lord, that a full heart is also a heavy one, ease our burden by letting a little of the gratitude We have so seldom expressed spill over and at last reach those who so richly deserve it. Let them know, sweet -lesus, how much they mean to us, give them strength to persevere on their often cold and 'thankless path, and keep them warm in Thy heart, now and forever. Amen. It is to help men realize this philosophy that our Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ. It is for this reason that we are here upon earth. But how may we learn to know God? We come to know God through the teachings of the Catholic Church, from Scripture and from Revelation. Once we know Him, we instinc- tively love Him and it is this love which prompts us to serve Him. VVe students of Saint Benedict Academy are very fortunate in the fact that we have all the necesary means at our disposal by which we may achieve this three-fold purpose of life-to know, to love, and to serve God. Each day in our Religion classes we are taught the truths of the Catholic Church. But that our faith may be a living, active, breathing force, we not only are taught the correct way of life but we are also given many opportunities to put in into every day practice. Each week we have the privilege of hearing Mass and receiving Holy Communion as a class. If we wish, we may hear Mass every day. Uur Chaplain, Father VViesmann, is very willing and happy to hear the girlls confession whenever possible. Our Chapel doors are always open for any girl who wishes to spend a few minutes with -lesus or with His Mother Mary. ' Every year we have the great advantage of making a retreat during which time we may get away from the hurrying, distractive world to commune with God alone. This year S.B.A. was especially blessed with having the Replica of Old Lady of Fatima for a nine day novena. Coupled with these days of special graces were the lectures of many zealous priests who spoke on the promises of Old Lady of Fatima. When the novena was over, the rosary was con- tinued each day by the student body. As a parting remembrance, the members of the senior class in a Day of Recollection had a final oppor- tunity to recall the three-fold purpose of a man in this life. Each graduate feels that from the training she re- ceives and the many opportunities for obtaining grace at Saint l3enedict's, she is prepared to face the world and its problems as a true child of God and soldier of Christ. 09,5 in is f'lleav'n This is My Body . , . With the Benedictine ideal, That God Be Glorilied in All Thingsv, the members of our faculty faithfully continue year after year to garner the sacred jewel of Catholic education in the minds and hearts of each succeeding gradua- tion class. They attempt to penetrate young minds with rays from that bright world of truth and knowledge. 'fUt in Omnibus Glorificetur Deusl' Repititio est mater studiorumn. What graduate from a Benedictine institution could ever forget those phrases or the earnest, preserving attitude they signify? Could we Seniors today ever erase from our mindfs eye those days and weeks and months spent in the sunny classrooms of our convent school, the long hours absorbed in solving chem- ical formulas or algebraic equations, the constant struggle against forces of ignorance, and the incessant repetition of truths which should make us good citizens and successful women? Many individuals, scornful of Catholic edu- cational processes, cannot understand the neces- sity for an academy such as ours. But we who know the compensation of being with the zealous sisters who view our young problems with the eyes of faith and trust, would not have missed these four, happy years for anything in the world. Pleasant memories of school life will linger long after our graduation. Physics, Trig, P. of D .... all the social and mathematical sciences take on a new interest and relation to one another as we see each in the light of Catholic philosophy. And through those classes which were solely religious in nature, we have learnt to view more clearly the earth about us and to face more courageously the future which con- fronts us. Hasn,t it been fun, now seriously, to think and dream for a few hours each day away from the noise and confusion of city life? And all of us feel that, though the schedule at times was strenuous fa good percentage of seniors have never had a study periodl, our relentless endeavors are worth all the trouble since we leave school with a far more rounded intellect and more complete per- sonality than we ever could have achieved any- where else. lWost of our former students, over the past thirteen years have become highly succesful in college and in business, while today's Seniors are already outstanding in inter-scholastic activi- ties, competition with all types of students and all types of backgrounds. We can sincerely say that no student from St. Benedictls who really interested herself in aca- demic principles ever has or ever will fail in at- taining her personal goals, for such is our heritage, the fruits of our labors, the end-products of a Benedictine education. gctwol mmf . . . Alas for the Rarity of Charity! . . . And now abideth faith, hope and charity, these threeg but the greatest of these is charity. 'lihese words of Christ symbolize the aims of the Mission Club- to spread good will, to teach faith and hope in God to as many people as its charity could inliuence. Because of its recent appearance, the organization has done unexpectedly fine Work this year and so it occupies a corner in our treasure chest among the other glittering jewels found there. lfach member of the club is a Co-Missionary who offers her prayers, works and activities of one day in the week for an adopted missionary. In return she is re- membered in the Masses offered by her missionary. Members also pray daily for priests, nuns and brothers laboring in mission Helds and ask God to send them more helpers. The Co-Missionaries have instilled a reat love of charit into the student g Y body by sponsoring benevolent campaigns in which all took part. During the season of Advent, Holy Childhood seals were sold in unexpectedly large quantities due to the campaign message daily sent over the P. A. System. Food packages were sent to Europe for Christmas. QLetters of acknowledgment followed the bundles.j A similar drive is to be launched late in the spring by the ofhcers of the club. The Mission Club has undoulbtedly brought blessings to us for it has followed the pattern of Christ's teachings and has succeeded in its aim to instill charity and good will among its immediate members and among strangers. 61 Dolores Bilotta, Faye YVoods w en tloung in heafzf, lilfe seems gat, .
