DEBATE AND SPEECH DEBATE SEASON Topic for policy debate this season — Resolved: that the Federal government should adopt a policy to increase political stability in Latin America. Lincoln-Douglas debate: There is no such thing as a just war. Special Honors and Awards. Policy Debate — Doug Smalley and Nancy Root placed 2nd in the St. Francis Tournament, broke to quarterfinals at Apple Valley. Hrytz Poletz and Peter Eversoll placed 3rd at the South St. Paul Tournament. Nancy Root placed 2nd in the Stillwater tournament (Lincoln-Douglas). Advisor: Glen Skov. DEBATE TEAM. Sitting: Nancy Root, Doug Smalley, and Tom Lindgren. Standing: Matt Lundgren, Deepa Iyengar, Mike Ibarra, Hrytz Poletz, and Peter Eversoll. Missing: Advisor Glen Skov. SPEECH TEAM. Placing 3rd in Conference were Jacques DuRand, Hrytz Poletz, Bob Skeate, and Stephanie Shannon. Tournament Results: Nancy took 1st trophy at Big Lake, St. Anthony, and Little Falls tournaments. Katie took 1st at St. Anthony; Julie took 1st at Little Falls. Regions — Nancy Root, second in Regions, advanced to the State Tournament. Bob Skeate placed 5th in Regions, Tom Lindgren 5th, and Hrytz Poletz 4th. Others advancing to Regions were Doug Smalley, Jacques DuRand, Katie Gonier, and Stephanie Shannon. Advisor Studer commented, Many students worked very hard to make this a successful season.
