Glwu dqnloaq The hrgh school career ot the Class of 1941 began September B 1937 Qn that memorabl date 41 young trmrd erghth grade graduates e arne green freshmen After th trrst thrrlls of regrstratton had Norn oft and everyone became acauarnted wrth classmates teach rs and burldrng he worlf' that rs now endrng was begun Because of numerous contests and act1v1t es the class learned to work togeth r as a unrt All prtched rn and fought the battle tarrly and sauarely and even when the struggle ended wrth the class on the bottom the gooa sportsn n shrp exhtbrted rn aefeat gave the members the necessary rmpetus to start out anew when another school contest was announced Durrng the Freshman year Irene Hammer was the chorce ct the class for Football Queen and although we werent No 1 at the trnals our sptrrts were undaunted tor as Sophomores we worked Just as hard and fast tor our candr date Betty Lu lorclan Comrng nearer the goal that trme we dectde that next years wrnnrng would be ours and as lunrors wrth Betty Frank Vogel as candrdate the Queenly crown was placed on the head ot Betty Franlc lt was also durrng thrs year that the Mardr Gras Ball was rntroduced rnto the school Betty Lu lorclan was chosen the lumor candrdate for March G as Queen and Sammy Crearhart candrdate tor Kmg Both were attendants at the C urt of Klng loseph Madden and Queen Bose Mary Word The brg event ot the lunror year was the lun1orSen1or Banquet and Prom at the Goldman Hotel whrch was rated tops by the Semor Class of 1940 Then came the year 1949 wh ch meant tne begmnrng of he trrumphal year tor the class Now we were Semors entrtled to those lrttle pnvrleges whrch all upperclassmen seem to adopt The Football Queen contest was poltshed off neatly nettmg the top honors tor lrnelda Corrotto thelr candtdate Then came the Mardr Gras celebratron wrth Brllre Weeks as the chorce And after the contests were ofer but not rorgott n there was more worlc to be one t the goal was to be won Frrst and also e all studres Lessons themes papers recrtarc ts rn rnory work hrs ory dat s r lrgrous thcorres shorthand speed tests tyotng drrlls the meantrnae there was th Fay ttevrlle lnvrtatron Meet the B strrct Meet Annual Becrtals Mus c Festrfals Concerts and other ntrnerous actrvttres and the Class lcep uo wrth all Durrng each year the Class had the prrvrlege of malcrng a Retreat three days of sorrrtual ncurrshm nt gurded by the lovtng hands ot a capable prrest Another act1v1ty whtch helped us o be strong both mentally and sotrrtually was the Scdalrty ot the Blessed Vrrgrn And each year the Soaalrty Conventton furnrshed us an added chance to learn the benet ts ot publrc spealcrrg and the formrng ot personal optnrons The soctal a trfrttes durrng the tour years were many and vaned school dances asse'nbly pragrams lorss orcnrcs contests and ays Before we knew rt the trrhe ca tor the Semor Play and rt was th n that some real rzed Just how near the end ct hrgh school really was Tryouts rehearsals changes lrnes and then rt was over leav ng us breathless but eager for the rt xt ex rtrng davs he lun1orSenror Prom Senror Pe ral Class Nrght and tnall f the BrG NIGT-Tl 1 The goal was reache graauatron' 1 The goal wh h for u rn ant th real begr mng the ccmrnencemertl Seventeen I e ' .
