1988 STUDENT YEARBOOK VOLUME 24 SAINT ALPHONSUS HIGH SCHOOL 7265 CALHOUN DEARBORN, MI ST. AL’S STUDENTS IN PURSUIT OF A DREAM ... We’ll find a time to think, a time to dream, and a time to be. In this time, we face authority and fear as one; we expererience tragedies and grow; and we believe in friendship and find strength. With this knowledge and strength, each one of us seeks visions to follow, while others stand confidently alone. 4 — Sree Nallamothu. 6 1.Sophomores in History class. 2.Hayan Charara raising money for Mardi Gras S.Carla Pagatto, Jon Banas and Tony Vitalii in Marriage class 4.Justine Lawemce, Brian Kolbusz and Derek Hedes discuss History 5.Seniors on Ring Day 6.Sophomores in Typing class 7.Sophomore lockers 5 SPECIAL FRIENDS MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE ... Both Mr. Weiss, his second year as prin- cipal, and Mr. Maci, his first year as assistant principal, co- operate together to create the proper environment which allows students to learn. Mr. Weiss and Mr. Maci’s style of leadership allow for students to come freely to them to discuss their concerns about school or personal problems. Also to have closer contact with the students and not to forget what it’s like to be in the classroom, both admin- istrators teach a class. Politeness when your neighbor’s curt, It’s deafness when the scandal flows, And sympathy with others’ woes. It’s loyalty when duty calls. It’s courage when disaster falls, It’s patience when the hours are long, It’s found in laughter and in song, It’s in silent time of prayer, In happiness and despair. In all of life and nothing less, We find the thing we call success. ■ 1. A dream is a beautiful vision that looks beyond what you can see. Then lifts you and guides you and grows strong inside you to help you be all you can be ... SENIOR’S FIND A time to dream, love, share and a total atmosphere of concern and care. A change was made of future de- cisions, a time of remission. The closeness and sense of respect came about, from one another. The feelings we felt came like a bolt of thunder, that no friend, no parent will put assunder. We became brothers and sisters. — GiGi Holthus 114 DREAMS ON RETREAT 6 , • 7 l.Rich Januszkowski helps with the dishes. 2.Edie Smith helps with the vacuming. 3.Lillian pokes her head arond the comer. 4.Sean Smith. We, speaking for all sophomores, had a lot of fun. We got along well with Mary and Father Dan who were our retreat leaders. We played games and had dis- cussions, which in general brought us all closer together. We talked about things that had been hidden inside of us, in some cases, for a long time. The Sophomores retreat was great. “Can’t wait ’til next year!” 1. Jenai and friends pone in the retreat living room. 2. Retreat 2 getting ready to leave and not wanting to. 3. Anyone can relate because we’ve all been kids! Much of the information about how kids grow from tiny cells to complex adult individuals can be learned from a book, but the book-learning comes alive when little kids come to school for a party members of the second semester class invited their little friends to an Easter party. The kids enjoyed games, crafts and food that the students had made. The students were responsible for planning and conducting the party. From the smiles on the little ones faces you could tell that all had a good time. Above:Sherri, Angie, Robin, Barb. Suzanne, and Michelle wish their learning could be as much fun as the kids are. Be- low:Students and their little friends pose for a group picture after the fun, food, and games. 121 STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council of St. Alphonsus is composed of students that exhibit wise decision-making, the desire to become a good leader, and the intelligence to work with others. The organization meets twice a month to discuss issues and events dealing throughout the school. Class officers and delegates are representatives for their class- mates on issues that concern student and stu- dent teacher involvement. Events such as Homecoming, Mardi Gras, The Old Fashion Christmas Dance and various other activities provide a bonding relationship among the student community. These students work hard to keep St. Alphonsus filled with excitment and challenge for not only the leaders but also the followers. 1. Greg Guinn — President 2. Anne Kwilos — Vice President 3. How can we put down on one page all of our feelings? We’ll just have to do our best. We’ve watched you grow from a small boy with a lot of energy and happiness into a fine young man. One which we all have acquired a tremendous amount of respect, faith, pride, and as always a great amount of love for. Though all of your roads you’ve had to journey on haven’t been the smoothest you’ve always managed to keep your head held high. You always kept moving straight ahead and your eyes fixed on what’s to come. Together we’ve managed to hurdle some of life’s blows, but we’ve always went over them together and become closer as a result. You’ve achieved much in your high school years some of which the rest of us only dreamed. You’ve developed a person within yourself that deserves and receives a great deal of admiration from your family and friends. A person who deserves all of the respect, faith, pride and love mentioned before. Whatever you choose, whoever you choose, or wherever you may go all of our prayers and hopes are with you!
