Attending a Catholic High School, such as Saint Alphonsus. has many advantages. Developing a good moral and Christian outlook is extremely beneficial to one’s state of mind. The religious program consists of such influential people as Mr. Dixon. Mr. Guardiola. Ms. Provencher, Ms. Senton, Mrs. Holley, and Mr. Smith, along with professionals like Sister Rose Margaret and Sister Mary Willard. These teachers cover issues on pro- life, economics, war. and peace. One of their projects in- cludes making Christmas baskets for needy families. The courses offered in the religion department are Old Testament. New Testament, relating, church history, morality, sacraments, death and dying, documents of Vatican II, and marriage. These classes are required in certain grades during your high school years. These religion teachers are always striving to spiritually educate their students and to provide a formal academic educa- tion in the Catholic faith. In doing this, it helps to develop and deepen the prayer life of the students. Mr. Mark Smith, B.A. Henry Ford C. C., Colorado State, E.M.U. Math, Religion Mr. Louis Guardiola. Wayne State University Typing, Word Processing The Business Department is designed to in- corporate the knowledge and skills learned in- to everyday living. Mrs. Gregory and Ms. DeSantis teach business students marketable skills in accounting, record keeping, word pro- cessing, shorthand, personal typing and retailing. Their goal is to honor top business students through competition and perfor- mance. This department is a vital aspect which needs to be expanded and offered to freshmen along with the upperclassmen. The growth of this department to include the underclassmen will also improve. The Business Office Education Club introduces more students to the many opportunities a career in business can offer. St. Alphonsus has always prided itself on efficient business students who will undoubtedly excel in the business world. Starting students into this branch of education earlier will also enable them to better develop their skills.

Or sightseeing in Marseilles? Then the Foreign Language Department has just the door for you to knock on. Mile Rheault and Senora Stepien have been working together for the past three years to develop a sense of accomplish- ment and pride on the part of the students. This year they are joined with Mme. Labaflnejad who will help them in motivating the students to im- prove their communication skills and to develop an awareness and acceptance of other people’s cultures. They are very dedicated to the stu- dent’s understanding of material in class and also with the furthering of their own knowledge. This department is very interesting in class ac- tivities involving music, culture, holidays, and customs of countries in which the target language is spoken. Foreign language week is another major concern. 29
