The administration and staff of St. Alphonsus High School are working to instill a sense of pride and accomplish- ment on the part of the faculty, students, and parents. Led by our new principal, Mr. Weiss, their goal for the 1986-87 school year was to return the academic and ethical standards that St. Alphonsus has always stood for. He wasn’t alone in his quest for perfection. Mr. Hudson was there to help him through the rough spots. Together, with the aid of Mr. Swaney, they worked on reviewing and revising the grading system and curriculum. Sr. Willard and Mr. Fundaro were kept busy by updating students’ files and, along with Fr. Mike, have been helping the students decide on colleges and help with problems. Down the hall in the Business Office you’re sure to have been greeted by the typing of Mrs. McGuire and an inquisitive remark from Sr. Clare Charles or Mrs. Zupancik. And if you need help finding the right book for your American Literature, Sr. Norita is the one to see. Without their encouragement and guidance St. Alphonsus would not be the same. its mi m Have you ever wondered who Sophocles was? Or what an oxymoron is? Then you’ve come to the right place. The English department is very con- cerned with the students’ awareness of literary terms and writings and also with the development of their understanding of the English language. Mr. Dixon and his well-qualified staff are in the process of updating the content of their courses. They are also working for movies that will aid in the teaching of their material. During your freshman and sophomore years Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Maci, Mrs. Bailey, Mr. Bogner, and Mr. Kanine lay the basic foundation of the English language and its literature. Miss Trump and Miss Ciocan take over the literature department for the juniors and seniors and are more than happy to lend a helping hand when needed. When it comes to the up- perclassmen’s grammar Mr. Dixon can never be far behind. Mrs. Bailey once again comes to his aid to help the seniors with their writing skills to prepare them for a grueling life of college term papers.
